My car makes a loud noise if anyone isn't wearing a seat belt. A hire car I was in last year abroad started making an even louder noise as time went by without the driver wearing a belt but not as loud as the noise I was making screeching, put your b****y seat belt ONNNNN!

Mine makes a loud noise if my lunch doesn't have its belt on.

As my car never really carries passengers during the week the belt is permanently 'worn' by the seat.

I'm tired and still ill, so going to bed for another few hours. Speak later :)

    That's a point.

How does the car know if there's a person in the seat?

Obviously a sensor involved, but where? In the seat?

I'e never thought about that before!

Sorry to hear you're unwell, CK. :(
Hope it's not the dreaded lurgy I'm just emerging from after almost two weeks. (Still coughing, but a lot less so).

I assume it's somewhere within the seat, with a second one in the belt holding thing. I honestly haven't checked, although my lunch is usually in a bag on the seat.

It could be, I got it when abroad though. I haven't made Georgian friends ill (I have checked with the 4 people I was around on the last 2 days and been in contact with the people who sat in front of me on the plane as they know my father and haven't made them ill either :o), so there is at least that.

I was supposed to have an appointment this morning for someone to do something with the house however I've cancelled that too as I don't want to put a self-employed tradesman out of work for a week before Christmas as I don't feel that's fair on his family.

    .

You must eat a lot of lunch if your lunch bag sets off the belt sensor! :D

I often put a handbag or other bag on the front passenger seat and it doesn't set it off! :D

Mind you, it could be worse; there could be a very annoying, patronising and repetitive voice telling me " Unexpected item in the belting up area"!

In the seat, some sort of weight limit. Heavy shopping on my passenger seat sets the warning beep off in my car.

Jealous much - is the chalet you work in veggie or are you expected to cook meat? Is that a problem?

I don’t actually cook - there’s a proper chef in every Chalet so we just help with prep and then all the serving. But no it doesn’t bother me - I was brought up an omnivore and ate meat until I was 26 so it would be quite hypocritical of me now to screech about touching or serving animals. If it was my Chalet business it would be a different matter but as it is, I’m not participating in ‘supply and demand’ so I don’t care what other people eat. France is quite Er... resistant to a veg lifestyle so it can be a challenge out and about but luckily we have to be fed as part of our contract and the chefs I work with are really great and always make sure I eat well! Plus French bread is the BEST so there’s always that.

I share a car with my mum (fiat 500) but I only use it occasionally, I was driving recently and it started beeping at me manically, I had no idea what was going on until I got to my destination, and found out it has sensors on the front seat that go off if there is weight in the chair (aka a person) but the seatbelt isn’t clipped in. I only had my handbag on the chair... clearly I need to clear it out a bit as it thought I was lugging a full size person around... :p

Not a bad idea anyway, because a heavy handbag plays havoc with your spine over the years.
On my soapbox now: the smallest handbag possible, and worn cross-body rather than on the shoulder, is the best scenario.

Actually, the best scenario is a small backpack-type bag, but even I find that inconvenient.

If lots of stuff is inevitable, then still keep the handbag small, but put all the other [STRIKE]dross[/STRIKE] essential items one can't go out without in a small backpack.

    Descends from soapbox.

    It's tough out there.

I thought I had employable skills, I had kept my hand in, did additional courses and for the last 12 years, have run a very successful website with a team of 40 people to manage worldwide.

Didn't matter a jot to all bar one employer, they saw the crutch or the massive great space in my employment history (even though the gap was explained) and that was it.

As it was, it wasn't the courses or the qualifications or the website or even my experience which got me the job, nope, it was the fact I had worked for them part time (and briefly full time as a first job on leaving school until I got a 'proper' job) when I was a teenager!

They did blanche a little when they saw the crutch but they have coped brilliantly with reasonable adjustments without me even asking, they've just worked around it and found a way for it to work - they bring the tables/sign outside in when I am next on shift and closing up and don't expect me to put them out when I am opening up, they've provided a step for me to use when seated, I am not expected to hoover etc etc. and they space my hours so I can rest and be able to work.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
