Talking of sigs... I am thinking of changing mine. I could apply to the forum team for permission to have a charity link in it, and put something like:
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.ataloss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services. Select a few basic details and it will give you a list of relevant support organisations for the circumstances of the bereavement and the person's local area.

The problem is that I don't want to stop warning people about changing their tyres, but I don't think I can get both messages into one sig. Or can I? If it said "PS Change your tyres at 3mm instead of 1.6mm and prevent accidents in wet weather" on the end, would that be in poor taste???

Would be great if you could keep both ideas in your signature. Can't you just have both separated by a line? We know they are linked, but everyone reading doesn't automatically know or need to know.

A facebook friend posted that she bet no one had ever heard of Ehlers Danlos Hypermobility, and I was able to comment that I knew about thanks to Sue's sig.

I on the other hand have a long tedious sig. :o

Not long before you get the little "mortgage free glee" badge that I think of as looking like the Parthenon. I have one, but I do not own the Parthenon. Or anything with columns and a pediment, for that matter! ;)

    Thanks Lydia, that's really kind.

I don't own anything vaguely resembling the Parthenon either. which is good because..

    A. I wouldn't want the Greek government to be demanding part of it back once I've paid for it.
    B. I quite like the idea of having a roof over my head.

I like silver's idea of having both in your sig, plus how you could do it.

I didn't know until relatively recently that there us a bereavement sub forum in the relationships forum. It has been hugely helpful, even as a lurker. They also do some guides. It would be good if your charity could be mentioned there.

That one I just find frustrating so I come here to chill rather than hide after reading it.

I'm also a big picture person and a big believer in not giving up and accepting your lot in life. Think big but accept that it may not work out is so much better than thinking small and never taking a chance on life and consequently, never moving on.

If I hadn't believed that, I would have a youngest son locked in his own world, completely non verbal, a middle son so out of control with aspergic rages that he would be in a secure residential home and an eldest son probably doing a minimum wage job or on medication for stress or both (the stress the other two caused with their disabilities was leading him to have stress meltdowns when he was younger where he would literally throw himself against walls to hurt himself)

Instead I currently have two at university and one on a graduate scheme earning double the minimum wage....and most folks here on this thread have been with me on the (sometimes very eek) journey.

I took a huge risk to do it, completely beggered up my career, my finances and my health but with little hope when I started the process of doing my own therapies with them that it would work....the gamble paid off.

That is truly admirable. Well done to you and your sons.

Thanks. If and when they give me permission, I'll do as you suggest. :)
I think the link would be less obvious if I take out the bit about my kids having been in an accident. In any case, I think most people on MSE probably don't need me to tell them to wear a seatbelt, so I'll take that bit out when I put the bereavement website bit in.

Good suggestion. Do you mean the one about death, funerals and probate? I had the same thought and posted it there this morning. It's been viewed 79 times and got 5 thanks so far, so I hope that's getting the word out. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I do like Berkhamsted, but have trouble dragging him indoors over there unless we are going to The Rex. Speaking of which, we've got tickets to see Paddington 2 at the Odyssey, big kids that we are.

Both are beautiful places to go catch a film if you haven't already tried lil.

ETA... we cross posted but thanks silver. We may take a trip over later today, having a bit of a lazy, nice coffee and a croissant and get up very slowly type of morning, so may be hours before we get there.
You need to come and stand out in the mud and drizzle at 9.15 every Saturday watching my kids play football. DD2 is getting very good (imho) but embarrassing when she is voted player of the match every week and I have to field non-stop compliments from the other parents.

The thing about a sig is that it doesn't require a response. You can put information in it, and if people don't like it, they don't have to mention it. But if they decide, in their own time, that what you've put is something they'd like to know more about, then they can contact you. If you put something in your sig about what you've achieved with your boys, then stroppy protective parents of autistic children are free to decide that it couldn't possibly be done with their children and to ignore it, but maybe out there is a mother like you were back in the day, who might read it and think "She did it, so maybe I could too".

Talking of sigs... I am thinking of changing mine. I could apply to the forum team for permission to have a charity link in it, and put something like:

Sounds like one of those govt nudge campaigns, first mention bereavement services then tyres - do you remember the tv add for nicorette and other stop smoking where the pharmacist says I have all these products to help you stop smoking but if you don't use them then the shop next door will be able to help you (the shop next door being the funeral parlour)
I’m off to Morzine for the second year - I was only supposed to do one season (quick career break before heading back into adulthood again) but here I am doing a second one...

And unfortunately there always seems to be icky guests with flu breathing all over you haha!

Yes - I would class avocados as a ‘luxury’ item however I probably eat a couple a week. I’m actually vegan so they’re a very good source of fat for me; as my diet is naturally low in fat as I eat no animal fat. So they’re not a ‘necessity’ but definitely great for nutrition. But yes the main cost really is these darn brunches where you order avo on toast with some kind of fancy bread and they charge you £8

So hi vivatifosi - I’m somewhat of an expert in all things non-meat ha. I do however like ‘fake’ meat and tofu but I limit it because it is, essentially, processed rubbish, and protein is easy to come by elsewhere.
Jealous much - is the chalet you work in veggie or are you expected to cook meat? Is that a problem?
    I think....

Lydia, my view is that the bit in your sig about your boys is the best bit. It's the hardest hitting bit.

Without that, it might be easy to overlook the message, as everyone knows that car tyres shouldn't be too low in tread, but I bet a lot of people would read it and forget it, (not being rude, but you know what I mean), were it not for the very personal bit about your boys and the seat belts.
That bit always make me metaphorically sit up and take stock; reality check; it could so easily have been a terrible tragedy but for those belts, and may not have happened but for the tyre treads being low.

    I hope you will reconsider.

As for the bad taste........ well at first reading, I didn't get the link between the bereavement thing and the tyre thing. It wa only after you asked if it were in bad taste that I saw what you meant.

The point is, that if people do see a link, it will hit the point home even harder....... and if it saves only one life as a result of someone checking their tyres, or putting on their seat belt, then it's worth the odd person thinking it's 'bad taste'.

To lighten things up, I just read a recipe for trifle which said at the end “This trifle will keep for two days in the fridge.” Not in our house!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It's a bit like the ready meals that say 'serve 2'.

Erm....... no, they don't serve two. Not unless you are both sparrows!
