Speaking of which, the term "Stock Market" originated in the City of London. It was originally selling fish and meat and where previously stocks had stood:

I'm going to park that alongside
the word stroke being short for a "stroke of God's hand",
ebay being originally an ebola information website,
and influenza being named after the supposed cause of the disease which was the influence of the stars. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Speaking of which, strokes were first identified by Hippocrates, who called them apoplexy. When I think of someone being apoplectic, their having a stroke does not spring to mind.
Language is fascinating. The story about eBay is a corker. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Language is fascinating. The story about eBay is a corner.
I had a look at the etymology of apoplexy, and as well as the link to strokes, it also seems to come from the Greek verb 'apoplessein' - to strike down and incapacitate, which has a better, more general meaning.
A long time ago, there was an occasion when I was so absolutely furious and raving, that I suddenly couldn't get my breath and started to feel faint, and had to stop being rabid and get down on the floor in case I passed out. The not being able to breathe seemed to last a long time, but it was probably less than a minute.
I guess that really was being 'apoplectic with rage' in near the original sense of the word.
Funny thing is, I can't remember what I was so angry about, only that it was something to do with the sprogs.(I just lurve spiders!)

There's a lot of words that start with a k and can have an s added.
You were upset by a bunch of Kremlinologists! I’m pleased to have got to the bottom of that.
