    George Burns.

Now listen to this. The new British analog synth called Fusebox.
This bloke is the new Vince Clarke, this is addictive. Swirl round your living room with your loved one to this.

Chris....... I've been meaning to ask you, although I think you probably have explained it before, but I can't remember......... what took you from Southampton-ish to Cumbria?

Were you originally from there, or had you been there on hols and really liked it?

No need to answer if it would compromise your anonymity!

1] I have no speakers and the broadband is far too slow for streaming anything live; I'd have to wait for things to buffer -and- that then clogs up my hard drive so I need to run CCleaner and reboot right afterwards
2] I've never heard of the OLD Vince Clarke
3] My living room is far too small for swirling, even with a broom
    4] I've no loved one.

    :)

Now I am picturing a swirling Pastures, swirling with a broom! :D:D
    ;)

    Edit......

Not a woman, not a broom, but brilliant dancing anyway, and always worth another look! :)

No problem. I'd spent the best part of six weeks a year for the previous 10-12 years staying with a friend in Preston and going out in various directions photographing landscapes - Snowdonia, Yorkshire Moors and Dales, Peak District, Scotland (although that wasn't on day trips, especially Skye, a bit far for there and back in a day) but, mostly, the Lake District.

When the company rejigged our pension scheme they gave us so much information (so that we could make an informed decision as to whether we'd accept it or not) that I could work out roughly what I'd get, and when. I then realised that I ought to be able to retire early, so I decided to make it happen. Having made that decision I decided that, having enjoyed six weeks a year up here I might as well have the other 46 weeks a year too ;)

The choice of specific location was mainly driven by house prices because I wanted to be a cash buyer so that I could buy, move my stuff and then tart up the flat to sell it and get my savings back rather than trying to organise a 350 mile sell/buy/move all on the same day. Due to the prices I did end up a bit further west than I'd really have liked -it's the best part of an hour's drive back to the M6 if I want to go elsewhere in the country. However, I got a far more suitable property for my wants/needs than I could have afforded further east so I'm happy enough.

I'm just outside the National Park, by about a mile, so there's little congestion around home when all the tourists arrive (plus there was no effective house price premium for being in the Park), but I can be in Ambleside (pretty well the centre of the Lake District) in about ¾ hour, Keswick in just over an hour or the far north-east of the Park in about 1½ hours.

The only slight failing is that I came up here intending to do a lot more fell walking and photography, as well as growing my veggies. However, not having ever had a garden before the bug bit harder than I'd expected so, thus far, I haven't actually had much time to get out on the fells - or, rather, when I have had time the weather hasn't been right and when the weather's been right I've had too much to do in the garden ;)

The house prices differential worked well in my favour - I effectively exchanged my 2-bed flat in Southampton for a 2-bed semi with gardens up here, plus my 4x4 motor and enough "change" to pay the solicitors ;)
