When I go to the pub with my mates we talk about beer or football or the weather or politics.

When my DW goes to the pub with her mates they talk about sex.

That's because the men daren't speak of their kinky quirks.... and issues over non performance, or being inadequate...

Women are "having a laugh" and mocking the subject when they're chatting.

Men: Go to strip clubs, hoping for a grope/sh4g out the back. Their "dirty little secret" they'd never tell their boss about.
Women: See strippers for a screech and a giggle. Not a secret - as they leave the office on a Friday night they'll giggle and say "off out to see the strippers tomorrow, will tell you about it on Monday".

Differing approaches and motivations - and differing amounts of "life importance" put on the events.

Slightly alarming email from my son:
"Turns out bricklaying is a lot harder than it looks."

Unfortunately, he's not practising! I'm not sure that we need that wall, really, but it's very much on view.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

My longest lasting b/f was a bricklayer. Proper late 1980s apprenticeship with the railways, he learnt how to build bridges and stations and platforms - and fix them.

It's a skilled job, without a shred of doubt.

This bridge is a work of art. There's one like it near Sheringham, and I must try to get some pictures of the intricate brickwork - curved and done diagonally.

Was the bonding between you not strong enough? :D;)

Or did he header off into the sunset? :D
    Leaving you quoin? :(

I know, that last one needs a bit of a stretcher of imagination. :D

As I understood it - he spent a lot of time mending tunnels that would've been a bit like that. Long railway tunnels that needed maintenance work.

I didn't stalk him, so no idea where he was day to day - but each "job" they went on would typically be a 1-2 month project.

When I say "longest lasting b/f", I was seeing him for nearly 4 years.

Through his job him and his 'gang' of workmen would find themselves in an assortment of pubs at lunchtime on occasion .... and pubs had barmaids :)
    He left.

I just googled him, looks like he's still there.... now as a construction manager ... based in London, with a CV that looks like he moved about a bit, and got on, but stayed in the industry. His dad was a railway man - and his brother.... it's how people used to get into jobs .... what your parents did.

That's different. I'm sure your DW and her friends wouldn't be willing to have the kind of phone conversation with an unknown man that those Mancunian-pretending-to-be-Filipina women were having. I'm also sure that you know that already. (Well, about your own DW, anyway. I haven't met her friends, so I can't be as sure about them.)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
