I reckon the men were still getting their money's worth!0

Just decided to "randomly pick an ancestor that sounds quite interesting" to see if there have been newly digitised books/whatever that gave any more details ...
So I started with aunty's tree.... aunty worked with another relative on this one who had made extensive visits to a tiny island/church to manually transcribe records that aren't in the public domain. This relative seems to "really know their stuff" on that bit .... according to aunty.
So how come, the minute I actually focus on this chap I spot this:
1756: Parents married.
1793: Ancestor born to parents.
Something's .... not .... really .... making much sense there.
And ... there aren't even any other siblings mentioned.
*sighs*
You had ONE job to do ....0 -

Blimey! All these experts on sex chat lines! :rotfl:
Actually, that's got me wondering..... do they have them for women?
I'm such an innocent, I have no idea!(I just lurve spiders!)

And, to be honest .... if a woman wanted to talk dirty, there'd be '000s of blokes happy to do it for free.

Yes. Men are sucked in by their prettiness and "willingness to be subservient to their husband". They are sold the dream that they can have a 16-22 year old pretty wife who knows her place.
The girls, of course, are after a husband with enough money to support them and their family.
It's "well known".
The men tend to be older, often 50-70.... not "a catch".0 -
Back to a spot of online stalking....
The daughter (now aged 33) .... appears to sell Avon in North Walsham.
Theresa married in 1990, actually, I now remember that I knew that, I think I remember "a weedy/pointless lad". She's a grandmother. Looking at Facebook, she's still instantly recognisable.0 -

They seemed happy enough, though, from what he said, anyway, and they had a couple of children.
Actually, also from what he said, she sounded quite bright, possibly more so than him.(I just lurve spiders!)

When I was about 20, the parents of two blokes I knew started a cab firm from the space under their stairs.... that was successful and grew to be a big local taxi firm - but it was, no doubt, helped by the fact the father and two sons were both driving for the firm - and they probably also started with another couple of "known drivers" - and, owning the firm, they reaped the rewards of an income generated 24/7.
I just had a look online, the sons would be about 50 now.... ah, I see the mother died in 1998. The father died in 2015.
The firm is still running, huge and from a small industrial estate building... so maybe they flogged it off. It's currently got assets of £2.5million - and some liabilities... current net worth is £700k.
The sons were a bit "wild". Large chaps, twins, taxi drivers, they were "a handful" as they say.... I know one got three girls pregnant 3 months apart ... and, because none of us got out much, all three girls knew each other
And one went to prison for some organised football hooliganism/fighting that was "a big deal".
One of them was also jailed up North for running sex chat lines, with callers thinking they were talking to Phillipino girls, when they were Mancs putting on an accent.

Ah and he's still a taxi driver, but in Norfolk now, doing charity treks:

You'd see poor taxi drivers around here I am afraid....most of those who were drivers at the same time as my brother have had to give it up as there just wasn't the work. There was one that looked like he had bucked the trend but he too has now given it up in the last 6 months. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
