Another interview through, this time I have until 23rd October to prepare! Only a part time temporary job but you never know, it could turn permanent. Hopefully this one will be the one where there isn't the shock horror on their face when I walk in as I have been allowed to put exactly what to expect on my arrival rather than just tick a box saying disabled.

It's local, hours I think I can manage and the pay is above minimum wage...oh and for a company I have harboured hopes on since I was at school when I wasn't thinking about a nursing career. However, it is not in my usual sector and apart from a stint when I was 14 as a Saturday girl, have no experience in it aside from good old customer service standards and qualifications.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

That sounds great, Sue! A really good toe in the water. And good for them, too, as if it's only 'temporary', they'd be more inclined to give you and them a chance to find out how you deal with being back at working ifswim.

However, the fact that they want people to be specific as to what the disability is suggests that they aren't just ticking boxes, and that the job should be suitable for you, as if it weren't, they wouldn't have given you an interview.

Everything you said above would make great hearing for a potential employer, so make sure you tell them!

What sort of thing would you be doing, if it's not too 'private' or fate-tempting?

Is there any sort of agency that could help you through an interview practice?

I'm sure there'll be loads of people that could give you a character/determination reference! :)

Old style interview I am fine with, it's this new style role play stuff that makes me distinctly uncomfortable...I've never been good with role play (used to get the giggles during St Johns ambulance exams where role play was needed). I'm also not so great at 'selling' myself, I'm more of a "This is what I can do, this is the experience I have, this is where I would fit into your business" and less of a bull pooer, I'm wonderful and brilliant type person. In short, I am more business like and less showman (person?) like.

It's in retail with a heavy emphasis on customer satisfaction and service.

Well, if it were me, I'd go for the facts and not the bull stuff!

I took on someone once who was a bs-er, and it proved to be the worst decision I ever made. Nightmare!
"What you see is what you get" is far better, imo.

As regards Customer service, well, I've just been on the receiving end of some customer 'service' bs, and weeks later, after a somewhat desperate plea from me, finally being contacted yesterday by someone who simply did the stuff and got the matter resolved in a few hours.
Much rather someone like the latter in Customer Service! :)

I'm actually qualified in quality standards for customer service...as sad as that sounds!

Mind you, probably completely out of date now.

Good luck Sue, I hope it turns out to be just right for you :)

Pyxis Wasn't there a Melvin in the Beattie ads too? Antony was the dejected grandson who'd passed Sociology ("You've got an ology!") and Pottery "Pottery? Very useful! - Antony, people will always need plates!" :D

Why is it that you spot a food item for sale in the shops and think "hmmmm" ... and when you decide "Right, ready for that now, that's on the list" they no longer sell it? Not talking "products" here, but ingredients. Very annoying... hoping it's just a Xmas shelf clearing issue and it'll reappear in January.

Supermarkets have been doing that for some years now - slowly removing "ingredients" from shelves, replacing them with "products" so you have to buy a finished item at a very inflated price, rather than buying the bits and bobs yourself and making stuff....

It was Malcolm I thought she'd said. :D

Maybe she said Malcolm in one of her funny soliloquies.

Edit. She may have said Melvin as well!

    But wasn't Melvin a robot?

Now I'm thinking of Melvin (or Melvyn?) Hayes in the Cliff Richard films et al.!

I am always appalled that in Asda which has only very large stores aimed at lower income households the shelf space dedicated to ingredients as basic as big bags of rice and pasta is minimal.
    I think....
