    Just bought some curtains.

The charitable trust who run the sheltered housing complex where my dad is moving have put us in touch with the daughter and son-in-law of the previous occupant of the flat that he's buying. They have curtains that fit the enormous full length bay window in his soon-to-be living room, and a blind that fits his bedroom, all extra thickly lined because the windows are only single glazed (listed building). Saves us a lot of trouble as well as expense, and it's a nice little bit of cash for them for things that are in good condition but no use to them with their different sized windows. :)

I wondered whether to instruct him to pay them (online) or do it myself and get the money back from him later. I decided he's got enough on his plate ATM and it would be nice if the online banking on his to do list was non-urgent. Just as well. The bank's algorithm decided it was a suspect payment, and instructed me to phone their fraud line. I answered lots of ID questions, and then had to listen to the person read out a detailed statement about how the latest scam is being worked, and then say whether that gave me any concern about this payment or not. He'd probably have managed it, just, but he's getting deafer and deafer these days, and it would have stressed him, having to ask them to repeat things etc. Still, glad to know they're keeping on top of these things.

In other news, I heard today that I have successfully persuaded my work to give me 2.5%FTE time allowance for being a rep on the committee for relations between the management and the teaching staff. :D The other rep is to get the same time allowance, and we're to share any union rep type stuff that comes up.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I actually suspect you may be correct in this Pastures, normally I would put it down to unthinkingness but in this case I suspect there may be an element of trying to deter certain team players who find the expenditure difficult. DW of course tries to pretend we are in the haves camp regardless of the financial pain it causes me.

You are in the haves camp. It's your choice to restrict income in favour of future savings.

It has never crossed my mind, ever, to have a flu jab... nor have I ever been offered one or presented with the suggestion or a leaflet.

    I have never had flu.

I don't think your lifestyle brings you into much contact with people who are likely to be carrying the virus or passing it on to you. It might be different if you were spending most of your waking hours surrounded by teenagers who've been picking up germs on long haul planes and by visiting foreign countries. So I'd maintain your present lifestyle as long as you can!

How silly of them. (Where's the shrug smiley when you want it?) And demoralising for you. :(

    Don't quote, will delete.

PP granted. Small side plot extension with loo/shower, entrance lobby and utility room with back door to garden. Small = 2.6m wide and about 5m long at a guess.
To be used not as aspirational and inspirational lifestyle space ... but "junk spot where all the cr4p is dropped, dumped ... promises to sort it out and get round to it"... but it does mean that all the assortment of "junk" one has, and cleaning stuff etc etc all goes out of sight ... and when I've washing airing it's not in front of my telly :)

5 week waiting time for B Regs if I want the architect to do them, then 3 weeks to create them. I can't see any reason to change architects at this stage, but haven't done this before.

Congratulations. Good things come to those who wait :)

Got a couple of links for you all, both are original compositions by Josh.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsAuqOG-vaY
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_P2r5UxeDY

The second one was actually one of his first ones when he was 15, the first one is a later one once he was at university.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

It's bloody annoying. It seems that all they can see is the chair or the crutch and not me or what I can offer, almost like they are thinking "Hmm, take this one on and she will be off sick most of the time"

I get the jab every year, and I never get anything worse than man flu, which I gather is not the real thing!

I'm quite surprised that Lydia's school isn't a hotbed of viruses. Perhaps the pupils gain a very good education and a very strong immune system at the same time?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The teachers do, anyway! Most people get lots of illnesses in their first year here. Our department has two new teachers this term. The one who's never taught in a boarding school before (although he's taught in other schools) has gone down with a cold already.

That's a big win! Lucky break.

People never seem to notice that curtains are a ridiculous price - especially big ones ... and a window without any curtains is a huge nuisance that needs urgent dealing with.

With nothing at the windows it's an overhead of time, travel, choosing, obtaining, attending to fit, fitting - all at short notice, when you least need it.... for something "quite unimportant and inconsequential" in the bigger picture, but that become "the number one priority" due to the impact of having none.

    Well done!

Almost "any price" for them's worth it!

When you view somewhere with large windows you "kind of expect" window dressings will be staying.... then you get a shock of "of course, they're taking those".... you can feel quite at sea at this point and disappointed/let down.
