There are microfilm copies of old newspapers in libraries in Herts. Not indexed though, so you would need to know where and when to ferret. I'll be happy to look for you next time I'm over that way.

Not if there are chickens about. They don't like ferrets.

Found someone to drive me up to pack Josh's things up and get it back here. It might be that either myself or Josh will have to do the return journey on the train due to the smaller car size but it's hugely better than what I was faced with.

I'm actually thinking it might be better for me to do the return journey by train, that way Josh will be on hand to unload his kit safely when back here rather than me and my parents trying to do it and possibly damaging something....I'll take a good book and just read, I'm happy on a train and it will probably be a lot more relaxing than the drive back and unpacking the car!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I can't read, anything, in a moving vehicle. I can't text, I can't read books or maps ..... I get violently sick within a couple of minutes.

Last time I tried I was on a bus going to meet somebody and I got on the bus and sent a simple text to say "on the bus" so they could judge my arrival time .... and just writing/sending that made me so ill that I thought I was going to either be sick, pass out or have to get off!

Classic motion sickness - your body feels the motion of the vehicle but your eyes don't see it, so your brain gets confused by the conflicting inputs.
Have you tried any of the seasickness relief remedies?

Funnily enough, I'm like that in a car, but I'm ok reading in a train! Especially if I'm facing forwards. I hate facing backwards at the best of times.

I remember once, I booked a trained ticket in advance, and specified a forward facing seat. The train pulled away, and I was facing forward. Then a little way up the track, it stopped, and when it restarted, it was going the other way and I was facing backwards for the whole journey!
    I was not amused.

Kwells works much better than other brands for me.

I've trained myself to be able to send a text and set up sat nav on the phone when a passenger in the car. Have to keep looking up every 3 seconds.

I'm the same in a car, used to be that way on any mode of transport but it improved a little on a coach where I can read for very short periods and a lot where I can read without worry on a train.

Mind you, I used to be sick in a car without reading. My parents always had to give me travel sickness tablets but I would still throw up, just not as badly. It all magically disappeared when I started driving myself and now I can be a passenger in a car without throwing up if I keep away from reading.

Joe has declared that I would need a chaperone if I came back via train as London is 'not safe' and I might get lost. Didn't matter how many times I told him that travelling on the tube holds no fear for me when it comes to getting on the right one....think he just wants a day out to be honest and the chance to go to London, even if it is just crossing through it.

Music, IMO, should be a priority expenditure. Tha health, well-being, and beneficial brain effects are well-known and well-documented. Why, oh why isn't it a priority?

Where in the list of priorities would you put music lessons? Above maths? Above literacy? How about above physical education - where the 'health, well-being, and beneficial brain effect's' are also well-known and well-documented?

Personally, I'd rather my kid's education was focused around maths, reading, writing and being able to communicate effectively. Yes, there's a place for music in the timetable, but as a priority? No, I don't think so.
