I'm going to shut up, think I got you mixed up with someone else. Ignore me!
Might have been me possibly. I had a breast scare about a year or so ago but which thankfully turned out to be nothing to worry about.
So sorry to hear your news Nikkster, sending lots of dodgy but lovely hugs your way xxWe made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Urgh! Yes, definitely me! I can't believe someone would choose that as hold music... that most count as torture?
I think it may be a strategy to force people into banking online:rotfl:Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Someone I "know" from another website is in the projected path of Tropical Storm Harvey - expected to become Hurricane Harvey. She's packing to evacuate but is afraid her home will be flooded.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Can't sleep
So... perhaps I'll post a question about radiators.
My dad, as I've mentioned, is downsizing from a 5-bed house to a 1-bed sheltered flat. The flat has kitchen, bedroom, shower room, living room and a large hallway. I said he needs to think of the hallway as a room that you happen to come in through, so he has an extra room. He's decided he wants to turn it into a library. This means covering as much as possible of the wall with bookcases. (He already owns many many bookcases, and books to put on them.) However, there's a radiator taking up a fair bit of wall, so he's going to apply for permission to replace/reposition it, which I think it's likely will be granted. So, we're looking for radiators that put out a lot of heat despite being small in wall area. (I say "we" but I mean I am, on his behalf.) Googling "space saving radiators" is coming up with things that are very slim to the wall, but that's not important. It can stick out much further from the wall than most radiators if it likes, but ideally it should be neither very tall nor very wide. Sorry I haven't got numbers ATM, but will be visiting on Friday and will able to get more accurate measurements then.
So, NP, any suggestions?
Thanks.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Yes, Lydia, have a look at VERTICAL RADIATORS.
For instance.... http://www.bestheating.com/milano-aruba-white-vertical-designer-radiator-1600mm-x-354mm.html
On that page there is also a link to BTu calculator, so you can work out the heat output you require in a radiator for that room.(I just lurve spiders!)

Brilliant suggestion. I was going to suggest underfloor heating, but the other suggestions are more practical.
Are there any other places that have used the same space creatively, and he can ask what they have done?
Could he still heat the space by leaving doors open and using heat from other adjacent spaces? Perhaps a small amount of underfloor heating could help. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? When we moved into our bungalow in 2015, we had the kitchen fitted then realised we had hardly any space to put a radiator. So we got one of these :

Wow that was quick! Thanks all of you.
The vertical radiators will definitely be the way to go as long as they don't say that there are structural or other reasons for not putting a radiator behind the door, and maybe even if they do. The current pipework is on the other side of the room, though.
Thermaskirt would be perfect if he were intending to get bookshelves fitted, but since he's intending to use a selection of the freestanding bookcases that he already owns, I think they'd block the heat from it.
I'll keep you posted.vivatifosi wrote: »Brilliant suggestion. I was going to suggest underfloor heating, but the other suggestions are more practical.

Yes he certainly should be able to borrow heat from the rooms, although most of the rooms are all at the same end of the [STRIKE]hallway[/STRIKE] library while the front door is at the other end. His flat is an odd shape because stud walls have been added to divide things up to make flats with their own small kitchens and bathrooms rather than the huge single rooms that I think were there in the original 1920s building when it was a "home of rest" rather than the "retirement village" that it is now.
Underfloor heating would be ideal, but I don't know if it would be allowed. He's only buying 90% ownership - that's what the deal is in this particular retirement community. You buy 90% of the flat, you live in it as long as you want to, and then when you move elsewhere or else die, the flat reverts to the Trust, who give you (or your estate) back the purchase price you paid for it. You can't make any alterations to the flat without asking for permission, and the entire building is Listed, which inevitably complicates things. I am assuming that they'll give permission for swapping a wide radiator along the middle of the longest wall for a narrower (but maybe deeper) one closer to the end where the front door is, where there isn't as much borrowed heat from the rooms.
Anyone who's interested is welcome to PM (or email) me and I can let you have further details.
Waiting for GCSE results for my class. I think they go live on the school's website at 8am, but I may be misremembering that. DS has to wait until 9am and go into school to collect his.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
