Council putting double yellow lines outside my house

  • Were you not made aware that there would be changes made to parking within such a short time of moving in? Surely the proposed introduction of double yellow lines should've been documented and your solicitor made aware of it, if you own a car this would have a bering on the decision to buy one of those particular houses. I was made week aware of the parking arrangements when I bought our house and if I bought a new build I'd want to be doubly sure that the parking arrangements suited me and I would walk away if they didn't.

    Yes all the neighbours get on well and speak on a regularly. All 12 neighbours are in agreement that there should be parking next to their house, one of the neighbours is writing to the council on behalf of the residents of the road asking for them to reconsider putting double yellows on both sides of the road, everyone is happy to sign the letter. On one side there are the houses and the other side is a park so I think the idea is to get them to put double yellows on one side and residential parking on the other, even if it’s only one space per house.

    As far as I’m aware there hasn’t been any access issues to date. The road is new, it wasn’t there before so not many people know about it. Also because at the moment it’s a dead end it isn’t used very frequently before they closed it for works.

    No here was no mention of there not being on street parking when we moved in. I’ve re-read the solicitors report and lease agreement and there is also no mention of residents not being able to park on the road, parking isn’t mentioned at all. I’ll ask some of the other residents if their solicitors reports have anything in them about parking. We should have checked at the time of purchase but maybe be a we were a little bit naive as first time buyers to think that parking would not be an issue.

    Residents permits aren't always silly money, although some councils do use them as cash cows. Mine is only £10 a year.

    Where I used to live, it was £20, with a free visitor permit.

    Then it started to go up, and the visitor permit was chargeable...

    Maebyjade try involving your local Councillor. If they back the Council rather than you, then all you need to do is find one other person prepared to write to the Council's Electoral Officer to complain that the local Councillor has failed in their duty to represent their constituents.

    This will invoke a law dating back to the 1300's and will force a local election to take place. Fancy being a local Councillor?. Then such an event would allow you to stand (and possibly overthrow the current Councillor).

    Btw, to be lawfully enforcable, DYLs need to be two continuous and unbroken lines beginning and ending in 'T' bars, so if someone was to shuffle back and forward along a section of the DYL enough that it wears away the paint enough to make it invisible, then bingo, there's your park for free card right there.

    As for the road 'looking narrow', my parent's house is on a street that is just 4m wide and was built in the 1960's.
