I am wondering if anyone can help. If the passport photopage is used as the "front page of the ID" what should be used as the "back page of the ID"?

Am I missing something? I would have thought that all passports have more or less the same "back".

    3. It is easy to avoid paying anything for a debit card: there was no delivery charge for my GBP card and if you decline to pay for a second card they usually make some kind of 'special offer'.

How is it easy to avoid? There was no mention of a delivery charge for mine, and yet, some months later, they made a charge. Which wasn't entirely unexpected as others reported the same, but I see no way of avoiding it at all, let alone easily. Did I miss something?

If you decline the offer of a debit card, they will ask you at a later stage to request a security code. I believe this will be sent to you by snail mail.

The delivery charge for the card is mentioned somewhere in the enormous pile of softcopy documents they send you - I can't remember now which one it was. I believe it is presently £2.95. They also mention the charge for the second debit card, which I believe comes in a different currency than the first one. I might be wrong though -- I have given up on the idea of using the Fineco debit card(s), mainly because they will not let me choose my own PIN for the card(s).

I sent a photo of the unopened passport, and then one photo of both the photopage and the adjacent page

Well yes, if you say you don't want one I assume they won't charge you for one - but Voyager2002 was suggesting it's easy to avoid the charge for getting one and confirmed he/she did get one, apparently without charge.*

So I'm still not clear how (too late for me anyway) the charge can be avoided, if you actually get a card. Not a show-stopper though for those who are opening an account for a bonus, just a £2.95 payment, so relatively trivial in the bigger picture.

Agree with your analysis that Fineco's not worth having, certainly for most people. I'm only keeping mine open at present in case I get a referral bonus! But I'll probably close it soon, just to keep things tidy (too many accounts already).

[*it is possible, i s'pose, that Voyager2002's charge hasn't yet been made. Mine was months after opening...]

yes, I reckon that's the explanation.

Many Europeans use an ID card as well as/instead of a passport. I do.

The back of my card contains separate information. So using 'front' and 'back' is simple.

Please could you edit this useful post to show the following:

    1. In the summary, you should mention the Italian equivalent of FSCS protection (limited to Euro 100,000): the risk of losing your entire deposit is remote.

    2. One of the best features is that you can switch between currencies at near-perfect exchange rates, something that I and other posters have checked out.

    3. It is easy to avoid paying anything for a debit card: there was no delivery charge for my GBP card and if you decline to pay for a second card they usually make some kind of 'special offer'.

    4. You should ensure that you have the code needed to operate your account: order one well before you are likely to use it. And remember that there are no Faster Payments for withdrawing money.

    5. I have not tried the App, but find online banking easy to use.

Thanks for your comments, I have made some updates in my post. I had already mentioned that there is protection for the banking deposits from the Italian equivalent of FSCS but I totally disagree that there is therefore only a remote risk of losing one's entire deposit. I have been at the receiving end of the Icesave collapse and will never suggest that a non-FSCS guarantee scheme provides good protection for a UK-based depositor, especially if they might not speak the language the protection scheme uses and if they don't have citizenship of the country in question. Add to that that Brexit uncertainty is looming large, and I believe the risk to non-FSCS-protected deposits is too high for any UK-domiciled depositor looking for safety. It remains, of course, the decision of the depositor but I'll not encourage anyone to take risks.

The time outgoing payments take is a real killer feature IMO, and not in a good way! My small test payment requested at 12:00 on Thursday 18th April (day before Good Friday) took until Thursday 25th April to arrive. One entire week!!! I was told that the delay was due to "the Easter feast", and that "In general, the outgoing bank transfers, inserted before the cut offs (2 PM), are executed one working day after". This is like travelling back into the past. I do like history and tradition, but not when it comes to making electronic bank transfers
