Every school holiday he is offered to go on school trips, with friends, or rejoin scouts (or equivalent) and I will pay.
I see the MSE detectives are in force today
I think it's relevant that it's a long standing battle - you can't expect him to change now at the thought of a swimming pool!2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
We (adults) book holidays and we all go.
Kids are 17 and 15 (nearly 16) and it's never crossed their minds not to come - we all love and look forward to our holidays.
Sometimes we discuss where we want to go (we have family spread far and wide), but our main 2 week holiday is generally booked without input. Last weekend we had a 'dream' holiday chat when travelling in the car - one child really wanted Bora Bora, the other New Zealand. It was great to dream and discuss all the lovely places out there that are beyond budget.
I don't think it's reasonable or unreasonable to expect your son to assist in holiday planning, but the fact you say you want input to avoid him not enjoying it and sulking or cancelling is a potential issue.0 -

So , he chooses what he does and you arrange a holiday for you.
The choice is not in addition to another holiday.
I get the impression that it you who wants him to come with you and he doesn't want to holiday with a parent.
Stop trying to accommodate him. Make a decision and stick to it.0 -
Just go and enjoy a holiday on your own - you're in a position where you can, lots of people aren't.0

Unless your son has always attended Beavers/Scouts etc then i can't imagine any 16 year old jumping for joy at that offer ! Same with school trips really. Again, ask him if he would like to go away with you and one of his friends ? At 16, some parents are very rarely cool enough to spend holidays with, it's that age between thinking they're grown up and being grown up.0 -

He was an active scout until the age of 12, and swimmer and judo student...but then decided it was too much hard work vs just sitting in front of a box all day!0
