problem with car bought few days ago
Hi
Looking for opinions and advice please.
Last Wednesday I bought a 2009 car from a small garage for 5000.
After living with the car for a few days, I find the clutch is very stiff. I've taken the car to two main dealer garages and both say that it's not normal and the clutch is on it's way out. Cost of repairs could be anything from 1000 to 1500!
Went back to the garage where I bought it from, the salesman didn't even have a look but said to come back next Friday for his mechanic to have a look.
For now the car is parked up and it's not really possible to drive with this very stiff clutch.
What should I expect from the garage, a fix or a full refund? Plus if they agree to refund what happens about my old car that they took in as a part exchange.
thanks

Buyers remorse?
I presume you test drove before parting with £5,000??
If you did, and accepted the clutch as was, I think you'll be hard pressed (no pun intended) to return as it was existing and you bought as was.0 -
Buyers remorse? no not at all
Yes did test drive the car, but not always easy to pickup all the faults when driving a car you don't know. At the time I but it down to it being a different car and that is why I asked for expert opinion from 2 main dealers.0 -
What car is it? And age and mileage?0

How many clutches has it had already?0

Renault Scenic 3, 2009, 122 000 miles
Given you appear to have paid through the nose given you could have got a 2010 one with 40,000 miles on for the same money they'll most likely do the clutch. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You love throwing money away £5000 for a 2009 scenic no thanks0

What happened to the C Max?0

So you test drove, and were happy, but now the clutch is too stiff to drive?
The question is whether a worn clutch is unexpected on an 8yo car with 120k miles on it.0 -
If you buy from a dealer you have an implicit 6 month warranty whether they like it or not.
The sticking point will be whether they admit there is a problem or will only admit it once the clutch has actually gone.0
