Pin numbers

I think my card does offer this facility... and i am happy that it is not there.
This sort of thing really is a big security hole .
I personally disagree. As long as people don't give away their log in details etc then getting the PIN online makes things quicker and safer. To me, the encryption used on websites as well as the fact that the card & pin arrive using different methods (card by post - pin online) makes it a lot harder for other people to get hold of the details.
Mail can be intercepted and read straight away. Online data can also be intercepted - but can take literally years to decrypt and make sense of.0 -
Yet another example of why it's crazy to usea a PIN with your credit card:
Card Fraud Puts Sister in Debt.
Handley stole the card, issued by the Alliance and Leicester, and found its PIN number stored on Miss Handley's phone which enabled him to withdraw up to £250 from cash machines daily.
Alliance and Leicester are holding Miss Handley responsible for the debt amassed on the card because she kept the PIN number in an insecure place
Tip: If you never use your credit card to make cash withdrawals. Then get yourself Chip & Signature Cards and Continue to Sign.
NO PIN = No Dosh. (For her Brother)

jamalfatty, you know about Chip & Signature Cards. I can assure you the vast majority of the public don't.
I don't like the liability shift to the cardholder for alleged PIN misuse when there's an alternative.
Yet the Banking Code states.
Article 2.
When you have chosen an account or service we will give you clear information how it works.
I can't find Chip & Signature mentioned anywhere, can you?
I wonder if Banks have advised cardholders that their PINs may have been compromised?

Nationwide DO Chip & Signature cards. I've got them.
It's all about who you talk to
Best bet is to speak with Customer Services, or better still write. They may try to persuade you to divulge that something is wrong with you that you can't manage a PIN. I believe they're not allowed to do this.
Stick to you guns and tell them you require Chip & Signature Cards.

Best bet is to request for Chip and Signature Cards in writing. (Quoting if you have problems with PINs, from the Nationwide site or Chip&PIN site).
If you decide to call tell the person you speak to you wish to speak with someone who knows about chip and signature.
They may try to pressure you, by saying you have to be disabled, this is wrong and I believe can be embarrasing for the person asking the question as well as those being asked.
They might tell you to change your PIN to something you can remember. The honest answer here, is that card watch advice is NOT to use the same PIN and I already use a 4 fig number I can remember easily for something else.
Good luck.
