Pin numbers

Does anyone know which companies can give you your pin number over the phone or online. With my current credit card they said it would take 5 working days in the post. About a week later I phoned up and they hadn't even sent the bloody thing. So I had to request it again and the overall time for the pin to arrive was just under 2 weeks.

Any credit cards that have a better system than this?

  • Pretty sure none of them will do this - it's part of the inbuilt security.

After all, if someone had stolen your personal details, I'm sure you would not want your PIN given out to them over the phone.
So many glitches, so little time...

Over the phone can't be done - no-one at the company knows what your PIN is. Their security systems should prevent anyone accessing it, ever. I was once told (not sure if I believe it or not) that each digit is held on a separate computer in a different location.

On line - Alliance and Leicester allow you to check it on line, but I'm sure no-one will do an initial issue this way.

Do you know any other companies that can do this. This is what i'm looking for really. Seems pretty useful instead of waiting for days for the pin number in the post.

Most of the cards issued via MBNA - including A&L, Virgin - allow you to view & change the PIN online. From my experience if you register through A&L you can then add any other MBNA card to that

as for other cards Egg allow you to view the PIN

I'm surprised. I thought you could only change pins at ATM machines. So you can literally go online and change the number with MBNA cards!
  • Cant say Ive heard that before

I thought the pin security was an unwritten banking rule for the protection if all, could you imagine the amount of allegations through a system like that

I dont know how accurate the information about MBNA is but I do know most banks dont have access to your pin number and you need to wait for it to arrive

If you urgently need to use the card I would suggest smashing the chip to pieces so it falls back to the mag stripe, of course if its obvious deliberate damage they probably wont take it:rolleyes:

Well I've just crawled all over the A&L website and can't find a change PIN option. I can view it (mine only) and request a postal reminder (mine and/or second card holder), but not change it.

virgin lets you do it. you need to enter the three digit security code from the back of the card, and then it will reveal you PIN.
