Error showing on my clearscore report:

I have signed up to clearscore - and have a static 537 score.

I recently got turned down for an account at the Nationwide, which I just didn't understand, but it was only for an additional interest bearing current account, so I didn't pursue it.

This morning I have taken the time to go through what small detail Clearscore hold, and they have the name of my ex-partner showing as a 'Financial Connection'. This, it says, is someone I have a 'Joint credit account or loan with'.

Now I don't - or at least to my knowledge I don't (I appreciate they are different things).

We were together for about five years, seperated around 12 years ago - and I have no doubts at all that his credit is completely snafued. This includes a bankruptcy, and fraud.

I don't want him attached to me, and suspect that he may still be causing me problems as evidenced by the nationwide.

How do I get rid of the man on my credit assessment being as we have not spoken in over 12 years - and unless he has put my name on something else (possible but not likely) then we really do have no connection at all.

File a notice of disassociation with the CRAs (remember there are 3).

If there is still a joint financial product somewhere, that should bring it to light.

Also check all your files for any other anomalies in the data.

    Thank you both.

Whilst your responses are clearly the answer I seek, I don't understand.

Could you possible dumb it down a bit?

What is a notice of disassociation? What are CRA's? And how do I file a notice of disassocation to them?

CRA = credit reference agency. There are 3 in the UK - Experian, Equifax and Call Credit. You need to check your files with all 3 to get the overall picture because not every lender will report to all 3 so they may hold data inconsistencies.

A notice of disassociation is something you can request from the credit reference agencies. You should ask for one when a financial association you had with someone, a loan with an ex-partner for example, ends. You are requesting that you and the other person are no longer formally financially linked.

    Experian: http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/questions/askjames285.html

    Equifax: https://help.clearscore.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/197/7/what-is-a-notice-of-disassociation

    Call Credit:
If you want to disassociate yourself from an ex-partner or anyone else you have had a financial relationship with, you'll find a button in the Connections & Other Names section of your report which will allow you to tell us of any problems you have with the information on your report and we will then notify the lender and ask them to investigate.

If the CRAs get back to you and say they won't remove the financial association because of an outstanding debt, then that's when you'll need to find out who the lender is and follow the advice I have given in post #11 in the thread below:

They are asking me for my experian report reference - presumably I have to get a report from each of these three agencies rather than clearscore? Is this likely to cost me money?

Blast him all over again! Thought I'd got rid of him!

Who's asking for your Experian report reference?

Yes you need a report from each of the 3 credit reference agencies.

Experian's free version is MSE Credit Club. Equifax's free version is called Clearscore. Call Credit's free version is called Noddle. It will not cost you anything to obtain the reports because they are FREE.

Just follow the advice in the links posted once you have obtained all 3 copies.

If you obtain your credit report you will see the name of the credit provider who created this financial association and will therefore be able to determine how it came about and establish that the joint account in question has now been closed. If the joint account remains open as a joint account you will not be able to disassociate until such time as the joint account is closed.
Although it is obviously a good idea to disassociate from this person, I feel it necessary to point out that as this financial association must have existed for at least 12 years and as your post makes no mention of any difficulties in obtaining credit over the previous 12 years, it is highly likely that the refusal of the current account by Nationwide was for reasons other than the existence of this financial association.

Thank you - he has been removed without so much as a murmur by experian.

And I think you are probably right, Nationwide must have had another reason, although I struggle to think what it may be, as his going hasn't increased my score at all.

You need to understand that your 'score' is meaningless, irrelevant and not seen by Nationwide.
