The point to note (as some my have mentioned) is this provides proof that we didn't need to leave the EU to reduce net migration.

    Twas a leave lie.

Well, it was up to Team Remain to expose it.

    But they didn't. They failed.

I'm not responsible for the inept campaign performance on the Remain side.

I suspect the heart was not in it, for some.

Look how invisible Corbyn was during the referendum campaign. Then look at how energised he was in the GE barely a year later.

It's like comparing two different people!!

Well it would have been better if the leave campaign's platform on the hot topic hadn't been built on lies but, yes, remain couldn't deal with the question. After years of missing immigration targets the government had no credibility in saying they could reduce it (although they still persist).

People wanted less immigration - the government should have dealt with it years ago and we'd still be in the EU.

Maybe the needs of the ordinary voters and the needs of those business people who lobby the government effectively are very different.

It isn't for Tesco to worry about the social fabric of the communities where their stores are located.

If the numbers crunch and Tesco wants more compliant labour from elsewhere, it will push for it.

The irony is that we could be forced into a situation of taking even more cheap labour from outside the EU post Brexit. I don't mind as long as we drive a hard bargain.

UK shop sales slide unexpectedly in August, retailers' mood downbeat
British retail sales growth slowed in August at the fastest pace in more than a year as the squeeze on consumers from rising prices continued, according to a survey on Thursday.

The Confederation of British Industry's (CBI) monthly retail sales balance slid to -10 in August from +22 last month, its lowest since July 2016
Quarterly figures from the CBI showed retailers reduced staff at the fastest pace since 2009 and they did not expect an improvement soon.

Im claiming that he is wrong, im not suggesting alternative causes for those not living decent lives in the UK. The burden of proof is thoroughly on him (or you if youve evidence to support it)

Just an aside as well, i said, provide some evidence for... Prove is a very high bar to set on a forum!

im still waiting for your evidence/proof.

UK business investment stalls in year since Brexit vote
Business investment in the UK has stalled in the year since the EU referendum
The BoE now expects investment in the UK economy to be 20 percentage points lower in 2020 than it had forecast before last year’s EU referendum

As I long said, us celebrating taking people from impoverished nations is an affront to those left behind who's economies and people suffer.

    Looks like some will welcome less emigration and indeed returning citizens;

    http://www.foxhedgehog.com/2015/11/working-to-reverse-lithuanias-brain-drain/

Many people can be attracted to return home, if wide and effective policy measures are implemented; otherwise, they will deepen their roots and remain abroad for generations, if not forever. Surely, it is not bad per se; but for Lithuania, whose single greatest asset is its small, shrinking population, this represents a frightening scenario.

On the one hand, it set a demographic bomb in Lithuania—for every 100 children (below 15 years old), the number of elders (above 65 years old) has increased from 88 to 129 since 2004. It is also a substantial brain drain—many of the most talented minds leave the country in search of better quality education or greater work opportunities.

Think back 18 months ago, what was my reply to Cleggs constant assertion 'we wont be able to co-operate across borders anymore'?

I said this was nonsense and we would like Australia collaborate and co-operate.

I don't know why you're laughing you fell for Project Fear nonsense about us drawing up the drawbridge and drifting off planet. Brexiteers saw through this infantile nonsense.
