Hi,
Samsung Galaxy J5 phone.
Have run out of space/memory and need to get rid of some apps. Eg, I have nver used Hangouts and Lookout.
Settings > Application Manager > Hangouts
There is no Uninstall option, only Disable. Will this do the same thing, ie free up space or will it just still be sitting there using space/memory ?
Have been told "Go to Playstation > download Titanium Backup > follow U Tube tutorial " (dont think I have enough space to download anything from Playstation so....
Any help please

You can uninstall any updates which will probably save a bit and then disable but the disable won't save anything. The only way to uninstall the stuff that comes with the tablet/phone is to root it and use a purpose made uninstaller.
If you are storing any media files then you could fit a micro SD and move them over to that. In general Android isn't brilliant with storing apps on an external SD - some apps won't move at all and even those that do still use some of the device storage.
The sad truth is that no 8GB Android device is going to let you have many sizeable apps because the system itself uses a pretty big chunk of the 8GB,0 -
I think you need to work out what it using up the space. It is more likely media which could be moved to an SD card.
There are numerous other things that can be relocated to the SD card as well, but I'm guessing you have read through guides giving options on how to free up space.
One thing that made a big difference for me was switching to an email app which allowed the option to store the emails on the SD card.
And when you buy your next phone it is worth thinking about getting something with a bit more memory, apps tend to grow in size with each update (although not like Apples do). So you can find yourself rapidly running out of space even if you aren't installing anything new.0 -
thanks. have found this...
Delete Android app from Google play store :- Enable some sort of data connection on your cell phone, either Wi-Fi,GPRS, LTE.3G or 4g.
- Open play store by pressing the icon named Play store in your cell phones menu.
- Once the play store has finished loading press the menu button on you phone.
- On the pop up that appears press the My Apps.
- From this tab press the app you want to remove.
- A screen containing more information about the app you want to remove will appear.
- Simply press the uninstall button on this screen and your job is done.
Worth trying the Titanium Backup thing ?0 -

^^ This exactly
NB - to delete the internal logs on your device , and free up potentially a LOT of space ,
type *#9900# into the dialler, and then choose "delete dumpstate/logcat"0 -
that sounds pretty drastic. what exactly does that do ?0
-
Not drastic atall - Simply deletes useless log files.
Have used this many times when my Galaxy S2 was telling me it had no space left.
Totally benign - use with confidence and the AndyPix guarentee

tried it, but "connection problem or invalid MMI code"0

oops forgot the *

Dump result
Delete dump !

Pressed OK. Nothing showed as 'done', but hopefully.. thanks0 -
Hmm, at what point did you get that message ?
Did the menu appear when you typed the code ? Or did the error appear before that ?0 -

Ahh, ok good - Now restart your phone and see how you go.
Its also worth deleting the thumbnail cache for your gallery too, that can take up loads of space0
