No I don't stop for cyclists at zebra crossings. Same how cyclists don't stop for red lights at puffin crossings.

The reason that some cyclists don't stop at red lights is probably because the majority of motorists break the law. Why should cyclists be the only ones who obey the rules of the road when drivers break them whenever they feel like it?

It's a bit hypocritical for someone committing motor crimes to start getting upset at other people's analogous activities! :rotfl:

Indeed. You often get whingeing like "Waaah, the Lycra brigade are using the road when there's a perfectly good cycle path". Usually from the sort of fool who thinks it's perfectly ok to park their car on the pavement, in a cycle lane or across a dropped kerb "because there's nowhere else to park". Then of course, it's ok for one type of transport to be in the wrong place...

As you say, each category of road user has plenty of sticks to beat the others with. None of us is perfect on four wheels, three wheels, two wheels or feet.

    You've forgotten unicyclists. Blatant discrimination.

Four wheels good, two wheels bad. One wheel? Scum. Sub-human scum.

What about vehicles with more than 4 wheels? :D

No I don't whinge at cyclists or tell them to use cycle paths. I also only overtake them if there is enough room for a wide pass. I'm certainly no MGIF.

Also I don't park on pavements or over dropped kerbs.

But it's OK for a cyclist to ram into a pedestrian while they are crossing the road legally at a crossing displaying a red light to traffic?

Don't be silly. No one suggested such a thing. :rotfl:

Seriously though why make a point to argue against that no one is stating?
    Strawman much....

I just find it strange that motorists moan when cyclists go through red lights when the road is clear and it it is safe to do so when 99% of the motorists who complain will occasionally break the law by driving at least 1mph over the speed limit.

If it's a kid on a bike crossing the road after going to the shop for some sweets then yes. But not for some Lycra clad pavement hopper trying to avoid traffic at busy junctions no.

No. If the kid is stopping for some nice nutritious carrots, I'll stop. But if it's for sweets, they deserve to die!

I thought we were supposed to stop for people APPROACHING the crossing, not just on it or waiting. And pedestrians and drivers should remember that if there's an island on the road, that makes for a separate crossing - drivers don't have to stop for you if you're on the 'other' side of the road.
But it's OK for a cyclist to ram into a pedestrian while they are crossing the road legally at a crossing displaying a red light to traffic?

Has this actually happened? Cyclists are second class citizens on the road (vulnerable) and on the pavement (not allowed to cycle) so I like to give them a break. They can criss cross with pedestrians on a crossing safely so that's fine with me if I'm sitting at a red light. Doesn't get me anywhere to think otherwise.

Then perhaps it's time for you to read the Highway Code again:wink:

Rule 195: "As you approach a zebra crossing
    • look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross
    • you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing"
