Anyway, an MOT only means the car is OK on the day the test was carried out, it doesn't say that the car will be good for 12 months.

What a fascinating read this has been! I want to know what happened in the end too!

If anything was looking worn but passable during MOT they would print out an advisary - not sure if garage has to pass that on - as only certificate needed on sale. Or previous owner could've lost advisary. - if there was one.

Think we all should learn abit more about MOT's - ie a shock absorber has pretty much gotter be p---ing it out to fail - MOT inspector would report/advise that - then pass it if only leaking a bit. So if you sell a car after that MOT, you then could have a 'Poppy' on your case?

Most people would get independent inspection done when buying a car - especially when warranty involved - but wear and tear, thats life :D

Hi I didnt reply this is thread for a long time because I thought it was dead I dont come on here on this motoring forum every day, I just noticed it by chance

Right I didnt proceed with this I got as far as a letter but choose not too

What was interesting was that back in November I had to replace two tyres it turned out the spare was old and I believe having not used it that it shouldnt be bald.

I replaced two tyres and have another 2 to replace soon to be on safe side, along with two front brake pads. I accept thats wear and tear.

I still believe and having had a friend who is a competent mechanic that this these shouldn't have gone so soon given the price and the mileage of the car. It was after all the mechanic opinion and I also sought other advice at the time from another garage, but it was his opinion that he couldn't say for certain one way or the other.
  • so you didnt even check the spare tyre before you handed over your cash?

It is likely previous owner swapped the spare with a bald tyre to save buying a tyre, I have done it myself with one that came up as an advisory on MOT (near or at legal limit) while I searched for cheap tyres.

No because I had to travel some 90 miles, and had my disabled daughter with me

Been there bought the tyre weld. I really must buy a spare!
  • well maybe you should have had the vehicle inspected before you purchased it.or when spending large amounts of money be available to inspect it yourself, buying a car shouldnt be a rushed decision as im sure you now appreciate.
