Good morning ladies (I'm assuming that you are all ladies, as I can't imagine too many men taking the time to do this, or being so talented)
Firstly, all your creations are soooo beautiful. I can't believe that some of you have written 'it's my first attempt' when they look so professional. I also can't believe how creative the nappy cakes and cup a sock cakes are.
Please can you help me. My OH's brother's gf is expecting. We're not that close, also my company went into admin, so money's a bit tight at the moment.
I know this is a broad question, but how much do these cakes start from, ie what's the least amount I can get away with spending. And what would be a good thing to do for a complete beginner who isn't very creative and hasn't got the same eye as you ladies... you can add in the word 'moron' when it comes to do crafty things, if it helps you get a picture of me.
I'd like to make one (although perhaps not for her but for someone I'm closer to, but no one else is pregnant).
Sorry if this question is too broad!

hi
well we did the craft fair £40 for the table and sold 4 single tiers, some socks and a few other bits, because of the cost of the table i would not advise anybody do one unless they can get a cheaper table.
Sold about £80 so it covered the cost and got lots of interest. Now what i did notice is some of the blankets or muslin moved in transit and have can up with this idea - i am going (well dd is i have sort of finished with them now) cardboard rolls about 15cm
wide and if you put that inside your blanket or muslin
its not going to drop and will stay in shape and should give a lovely finish, i have checked ebay and its very cheap but not bothering for a while now we have photos etc and till dd decides what to do next0 -

It does vary, I have heard ladies talk about adding 39% to the cost of the finished item for their profit. I use anywhere from 35 nappies to 59 nappies in my 3 tier. Also if you look out for bargains, reduced items but cost them at full cost and shop at poundland, primark, wilko's etc, or anywhere they have good deals you will keep your costs down. For the nappies, ATM asda are selling 2 boxes of 102 size 3 nappies for £18.00, that works out at less than 9p per nappy but charge at 14p and you will make 5p profit per nappy. Not all ladies on here will agree with what i say, but it seems to work for me. I currently sell my 3 tier for £35 (so far sold 3, 2 at £35 and one custom made and sold at cost for £15 think the pictures may be on this thread somewhere) my 2 tier for £25.00 (sold 2) my single tier £18.00 (sold 1), my bathtime single tier £20 (sold 1) and christening cake (1 tier special) for £35 (sold 1).0 -
My pricing is:
1 Tier costs me £14 I sell for £15
2 Tier costs me £15 I sell for £25
3 tier cost me £16 I sell for £35
BUT I am working on the 3 tier as it def needs more added to it
Your only problem you may have is most of us tend to buy clothing in bulk to keep it cheaper, but obviously you dont need that much. For this reason it may be worth buying doing a smaller cake (less nappies) but stuffing it with clothingGreen and White Barmy Army!0 -

You aint making much for you 1 tier then? Surely you should charge more, to cover your time, travel etc0 -
Yeah I know that, but Ive gone with the logic that I make so much on the others it doesnt matter too much. But I know what you mean!
Im looking at the mini cakes that some of you guys do as a smaller option, so that I can up the price of my 1 tier cake.
What do you guys use in your mini cake? And how much do you charge?Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
