are you lto making alot of money, i did this all last year but found i ended up loosing out,so just do them now if people ask for certain ones or if its for me, i have loads oh baby stuff up the stairs i could sell cheap if any 1 wants, a few outfits it think, ribbons, erm maybe little booties, cups rattles i cant acutlly rmeebr if any wants to but pm and theyll eb going cheap

It's impossible to make lots of money from hand crafting and things like these, but you can easily cover your costs if you scource your ingredients carefully.

But I think most of the girls on here make them for the enjoyment as much as the small profit..

Thanks Chatty he is a real cutie, wicked and does not stop talking just like his Mam ;)
I find the same with the cakes I had to make lots of blue ones up until Xmas but now its all girls.

Shellnapier - no I dont make much money at all but I do it more as a hobby and enjoy seeing peoples reactions when they recieve them. The little amount I make I put in a little pot for our holidays. I won't be setting up a website or anything ;)

Quite agree. If we had to cost our time in it they'd be so out of anybody's price reach LOL.

Personally I get a real buzz from peoples reaction and the little bit i do make I too save it for a good old retail therapy day
  • Hi girls

I have been trying to read through this thread - all your nappy cakes are ace but I just can;t find the time to read it all so wondered if I could ask a couple of quicky Q's....I'm making a nappy cake for a friend for the 15th Feb, and then one for April for my sister.

I have the basic ingredients, except a teddy so far. Still need to get the finishing bits like ribbon and cellophane....

I cant seem to get a round cake board easily, have just been looking in supermarkets. What else could I use for my base?

What is the best way to roll the nappies - I noticed another swirling method mentioned?

Look forward to any help you can give, and promise to post a pic when its finished!! :-)

    Thanks in advance,
    Laura x

Hi, after receiving a nappycake after the birth of my daughter, ive decided to do the same thing for my friend. Ive got all the ingredients, but seem to be having a few problems (im not the most creative!).
Can anyone tell me how u start? Do u start out and then in, or in and then out? Its just my nappies keep falling over and i keep loosing the shape???

You unfold the nappy, then roll it up, keeping the edges as level as possible, then secure with an elastic band. as you do another one you then add this to the elastic and so on building it up. it make take a few tries to get the nappy tight until you get used to it. personally i start at the taped end and when i egt to the other end i fold this in. If you get my meaning, i'm useless as explaining..

if you keep the nappies in a tight roll and finally all bound securely, you can get away without using a cake board as once completed the cellophane will hold it all ok. if you prefer you can use a strong piece of cardboard covered in tin foil, or a melomine type plate covered..

hope this helps you to get started. and don't worry if once its all completed you decide your not happy and take it all apart to re do it.. Cos we all do that at sometime or other ha ha

don't forget its important to show us the finished product..

    HAPPY NAPPY CAKE MAKING
  • Thanks chatty! I will give that a bash. I meant to ask what size of cake boards do you normally use - I will be doing a 3 tier cake....thanks so much for your help! x
