    Hello

Been lurking here for a few months and am very impressed with your cakes ladies. I have put together a couple of cakes now for friends and family but am finding the ribbon I like to use that has dots on is costing me 90p a metre from my craft shop which I think is a bit steep.

I want to keep making cakes as and when needed because it keeps my brain ticking over when at home with a toddler but was looking for some help from you lovely people... can anyone recommend a good online place to buy ribbons either by the metre or by the reel? Preferably not Ebay!

I had a quick look back over this thread and I think it was Rusty Flange who mentioned she can order a reel for about £4 (sorry if I'm wrong).

    Thanks, J

Wow Becs, what a lovely pink cake, looks really 'pink and girly'.
JulieJester, Sian the Green - what great cakes, I can't believe they were your first attempts, my first wasn't a patch on yours.

Went to ASDA's the other night, not impressed !!!!
How come I'm still paying £2.50 an elephant, when I know loads of you have been buying at £2.20 !!!
Getting a bit worried though now, loads of cream ones left but only a couple of pink and blue ..... just like the HB's blankets

Still haven't finished my leaflets .... how useless am I !!!

My friend took a 3 tier pink cake into hospital for her daughter, the comments she got were great. Nobody had seen them before. The tea ladies, cleaners, nurses etc. were all coming up to her asking about it. Felt a bit guilty, like taking the limelight away from her little girl.

Some colour coordinated ribbons - spotty, gingham etc would look nice.

I place a blanket around the bottom tier, sometimes a vest around the 2nd tier and nothing (or a bib) around the top tier. Some people on here use a muslin cloth too.
I also add 3 roses made from socks to the bottom tier (I hide the 4th one inside the cake). I don't bother with the florist tape etc, they are just held with a rubber band at the bottom, and squeezed between the nappies.
I usually use florist ribbon with gingham ribbon on top ...... or have used just florist ribbon with 'table confetti' pieces stuck on.
