  • Hello again...

Been stuptidly busy recently - but nothing constructive!
    I have a question...
I have a small fair on saturday and have made 1 x 1 tier pink cake and 1 x 3 tier blue cake (as am also selling other items, can't take any more)
The local florist charges £1 per m for cellophane, so to wrap the larger one would be around £3 to wrap incl bow etc, probably £2 - £2.25 for the smaller one.... so should I bother, or just leave them unwrapped for people to see?
Can't really afford any more outlay, but obviously also want to get orders if possible.
Would unwrapped be off putting? Could I just explain that wrapped was an optional extra?
I am getting very nervous that I have wasted loads of time and money on something that won't have anyone turn up!

Sorry - will have to dash... promise I'll be back later to look at pages here that I've missed

Polobear do you not live near a hobby craft as they sell it there

  • Julie - Unforunately nowhere near any large craft shops!...

...had a quick glance through the pages I've missed... (but either MSE or my PC playing up)

Some fab advice and great nappy cakes!. Must try putting some things on the outside of the cake on my next one
Also I Love the pink and white rabbit on someones cake - that was adorable! Really shouldn't be on here... but taking a "lunch break" :rotfl: well, I'd get one if I was working wouldn't I?
  • I do my sock roses by rolling from the toe and then fold the top down. I stick in a wooden skewer and then wrap green florist tape around from the the sock right down to the bottom of the skewer. I then finish off with babys breath as in the pic.

Yes they always look better with girly socks but have done quite a few boys but then i tend to use white, baby blue and stripy ones.

This is a close up to show you how the florist tape is wrapped around the sock.

My daughter sells some of my baby gifts on ebay and one of them is the sock jam now im sure others do do them but it was something i had never seen before on there. and as for some of my other stuff i did have someone buy some bits in one name and now selling something very much the same on another name. I know people will copy its something we all do at one point i think. Any way she keeps getting someone e-mailing her and asking what size jars am i using now my daughter thinks she doesnt want to buy one but copy them lol and she wont reply to the e-mail which i think is funny now would you reply or not or would you be like my daughter and blank her (daughter thinks she wants to copy as she as brought a lot of ribbons and stuff with baby and that on it of other sellers)

I wouldn't give the details of the jars. I have noticed that another person is selling washcloth cupcakes apart from yourself, I wouldn't have the nerve to copy someone as blatantly as that. I had cakes on e-bay but have given up. Its the same sellers that people buy from, I just cant get my foot in the door so to speak. Anyway hey ho, doing a tiny open day thingy on Saturday so at least my cakes will be seen in the flesh so to speak.

God the local florist is ripping you off I cant believe she charges that much you need to invest in your own roll you can buy a 100 mt roll from rainbow florists for I think around 12.50 +vat ( non trade cheaper if you order a massive quantity of stuff ) and the delivery is around 6 quid your florist is paying around 7.50 a roll of it thats not a bad profit for her is it!
I know thats not a lot of good when you need it for the weekend do you have another florist you can try I cant see they would all have such a massive mark up.
personally I think they look at lot better wrapped and also are easier to transport
