Been really quiet on orders this month but have booked 2 school fetes so hope to get organised for them soon. Had a major problem getting blankets recently though but popped into Home Bargains and they've had a supply in of my favourite blankets so I was really chuffed and ended up buying 8 (oooppps).A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -

Whilst hunting for a bath thermometer on the baby stall in our local market, I just happened to slip out ....... lol, that I make 'nappy cakes'.
I couldn't believe it, she said that she used to have a lady who made them and she let her display a sample one on her stall. Said she had plenty of orders for them, and doesn't know what happened to her. Said she had loads of orders for her and ended up giving everyone the deposits back.
So ........ tomorrow I have the task of making one up (or rescuing one of my squashed ones) and will take it to her stall on Thursday for her to display.
She never mentioned anything about wanting any comission.
Fingers crossed, I will get an order from it.A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -
Hi Bellag
Just a question about wrapping cellophane around the cakes instead of under and up! I started doing this a while ago but found that most people pick them up by the top and I didn’t think it was secure enough. (Had visions of the cake falling through and crashing onto the floor!) Have you had any problems with this? Have gone back to the old way.
Also, when you put nappies in a “twirl” instead of rolling them, do you put the thick folded bit on the outside or inside? It is also a good method to just lightly fold them in half to put around something in the middle. Works best on bottom tier as it’s bigger.
Sorry about the questions, Hope the orders are rolling in!
Shelley – picked up some nice “furry” blankets in B & M for £1.99. Must say though, they are a bit hard to fold as they are a bit bigger than others. I still like the fleece ones best.0 -

Hi Moonpenny,
Yeh I was worried about that too but have not had a problem with one falling apart yet at all. I just cellotape it to death at the bottom lol!
For the nappies I basically get a quiche dish and place first nappy along inside wall of dish then the next nappy is placed infront of this nappy (against dish wall) so it overlaps it (about 2 thirds to a half) over the open end of first nappy. Then I place the third nappy infront of second nappy and so on. I keep adding all the nappies like this in the dish so all the open ends of nappy are pointing into the middle and make a swirl. All folded edges are on the outside. I then rubberband the lot and lift out of the quiche dish.
Using the dish just makes sure that each cake is the same size. I have a cake tin that I use for the second tier which is smaller in diameter and a little milk pan i use for the third! :rotfl: :rotfl:
I find I can get away with not putting anything in the middle and just use a bit of double sided tape inbetween layers or some blunt ended skewers If I'm not using a bottle.
I hope that all made sense? If not I will take a pic of a 'naked' cake for you.

hi bellag...can I have a pic of your "naked" cake please...i'm finding it hard to visualise what it looks like....i usually roll mine but was thinking of "swirling" them
thanks xx0 -
Thanks Bellag!
I have been doing something similar with a round plastic cake storage box. I use a small mixing bowl for smaller tier. I do slightly different to you where I put them all around the edge with a rolled up one in middle just for the shape. I put elastic band round and then tip out upside down. I rearrange the nappies at this point and when I have got it neat I tie curling ribbon around instead of band and turn it upside down again (It’s usually much neater on underside as I have been turning it to straighten it out). I then take rolled middle one out and replace with whatever I am using – talc etc. (I put more on inside than you do) Just wondered about the sides being ridged with the folds but it looks neat.
Might rethink the cello again as using it under takes a lot compared to other way.0 -

I always end up chopping off loads of excess cello from the top.
Especially as I've just had to buy a roll from Partners today at £4.99 for 10m !!! (as needed for tomorrow).A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -
Julie, thanks for the photo. They are gorgeous! I can see you just roll them, but how do you stop them unrolling?I Love My Computer Because My Friends Live In It0
