Rusty: I think it was you who asked about Publisher. Im a graphic designer so Ill try to answer your question as well :) Theres nothing wrong with Publisher and to be honest when I first got interested in design I used it :) Although now I wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot barge pole, but thats because I have the expensive software thats easier to use. Lol.

Just please please please please dont use that pyramid thing as a logo that comes as the basic logo on publisher. Lol, its just one of those things to avoid. Hehe.

I have my own website (https://www.kriswotton.com) but unfortunately Im not a web designer. Lol. I did that design while learning about web design in uni, but then never continued with it so dont really remember how to add another page to make about my nappies. Ooops.... (plus its why it hasnt been updated in a while)

    Evening all,

I've just made up a nappy cake for my friend in work whose best friend has just had a baby. She had already bought the Mamas & Papas Linear Zoo blanket and zebra to match the nursery so I offered to make up a nappy cake for her as a favour. She also bought a sleepsuit with matching vest and hat, a beaker, a teething ring,a fisher price rattle and scratch mitts. I'm not charging for this one because she is a close friend and she bought all the ingredients. I'm really pleased with this one and she let me have a free reign with it so even better. (i've attached the rattle to the back of the cake so you can't see it in the pics sorry)!!:D:D

Although the ingredients were expensive for this one I might decide to use Mamas and Papas blankets and toys as I've been asked to supply a local gift shop in an expensive garden centre and I think they might appeal x

    Shelley,

That's lovely, like your spotty ribbon too! I need a yellow polka dot one for the cake I'm doing for my friend. She's into bright colours and doesn't know whether it's a girl or boy so I've made one up in lemon. Also used 5 of the circus wrist rattles that I picked up in sainburys sale and a nice toy I'd already bought. Just need some nice dotty ribbon to finish it then I'll post pic!

Thanks Becs I always use the spotty ribbon i've got it in pink, blue, brown, lime green. This cake is for a girl but the nursery is done in Linear Zoo so the ingredients are pink and girly but the outside is quite unisex. I couldn't use pink on the outside it looked awful. Just sent my friend a pic and shes really pleased so i'm happy too:D
I bought the rattles from Sainsburys too - they are lovely. x

Ok, I'm sooo excited - after sending a message on facebook to the people who joined my cake dec group about nappy cakes - I got an order for a 2-tier neutral cake! :T

    Charging £23 - what do I put in a 2 tier?

    I was thinking....

27ish new born huggies nappies - £3.00 from Mr T
    Baby Talc - 96p from Mr T
Newborn Vest, Hat, Sleep Suit and Bib with bear design - £6.00 from Matalan
    Bear Teddy £3.00 from Asda
    Hand Towel £1.95 from Asda
Plus £1.50 for celephane, ribbon and bow

    Total Cost = £16.41

    Profit = £6.59 = 35% profit! (I thnk - maths isn't my strong point)

Is this enough content v's profit on a 2 tier cake?

DEBT FREE for the first time in 10 years and with savings!

    1st Baby due May 2011 :o it's a BOY:j

    Hi Leni,

It's just under 29% profit. Your costs seem quite high and I can only put that down to the clothes set. It usually works out a lot cheaper buying the multi packs of sleepsuits, vests etc and splitting them. If you wanted to do a set specifically have a look in Asda as my local one had quite alot of sets in there 50% off today.
As a guideline my 3 tiers cost appx £20 and I sell for £33 which is just under 39% profit but that doesn't take into account any charge for my time or costs in going to get the items etc. I would say your profit isn't really enough, it must take at hour at least to get everything and make the cake so it doesn't seem enough really. I would either try and lower your costs or up your price.

    Hi Leni

I tend to agree with Becs - if you buy the multi packs it does work out more cost effective.

My only issue is, as this is my first and only order - am I going to get anymore orders? Crystal Ball anyone !!

So buying the multi-packs is a big layout! Should I include all these clothes in a 2 tier anyway? I scouted out Matalan, Asda and Tesco's last night and this was the cheapest option - only thing reduced in Asda was a set for 3-6 months with the hat and a sock missing but was £2.00

From personal experience I found that once people know you do them the orders will keep flooding in. And anyway if they don't i'm sure someone you know may be having a baby and you could make one as gift.
The multi packs of vests from Asda have 7 in them for £5 so technically that one pack should last 7 cakes depending on how many you use.
I used to put too many clothes in mine - now i only put 1 vest and sleepsuit in 3 tier and only 1 vest alone in the 2 tier. That way it is not a big layout.
I hope this helps Leni xxx

Shelley your cake is absolutely gorgeous! I love the colours and it goes fantastic with the ribbon too!

I've just returned from Boots Christmas event and spent £68 and managed to get £16 in points! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ! You get 1000 extra points if you spend over £50.

bought bibs and christmas vests and booties for some mini nappy cakes and I had a mini mode double points voucher so got extra points with that too.

By the way huggies economy packs are 2 for £16 and they have 25% extra free in them at the moment too! So I bought 4 packs. I could hardly walk out of the shop to my car! :rotfl: :rotfl:

    B xx
