I think deliberately doing something which you know annoys and upsets your neighbours is anti social behaviour, despite Guest101's views to the contrary.
Sound and noise unfortunately doesn't stop at fence boundaries and playing music so loudly that you know it annoys and upsets yours neighbours is just as antisocial in my view as lighting a big bonfire just as your next door neighbour has hung their washing out.

I don,t think you should let this woman make your life a misery. Get yourself some headphones so you can!t hear the noise but also don't sit back and let her deliberately destroy the peace and enjoyment of sitting in your own garden.

Thank you; I've got a small amount of money coming my way that may pay for some decent noise-cancelling headphones, so I might see about getting some.

It's not anti social, it's just annoying. There's a big difference.

Are you especially sensitive to noise, I wonder, OP? I fail to see how a mobile phone could play music loudly enough to even be considered a nuisance. I accept you might hear the music, but I can't imagine it is actually loud?

Could you wear some ear/head phones to block it out?

I'm going to from now on, but I need to get something to play music on first, like an MP3 player, or figure out how to use my phone. Then I'd have to get headphone adaptors, as I find earbud styles uncomfortable so have a big pair of over-ear headphones and would prefer to use them.

I am quite sensitive to noise, but I often get tired of wearing earplugs and don't want to wear them all the time (plus, all of the ones I've tried don't block out much sound, really).

Go out there with headphones on and pretend you can't hear her.
Of course, that's not going to stop her playing her music as she usually does anyway.

    Noise that is unreasonable is:
    • Loud noise after 11pm and before 7am
    • Loud music and other household noise at an inappropriate volume at any time

I suggest playing Radio 4 very loud when they are in the garden. 'In our time' would be a good choice, everyone needs Melvyn Bragg and assorted erudite avademics at 140 dB. :D
