I get this, but then the snap election should have been called when Cameron stood down (or as soon as the Conservatives appointed a leader).

Not 9 months down the road.

There is an argument that a PM stepping down should be an automatic process for a General Election to be held

If labour didnt call one when blair step down, do u really think the conservatives would?
Seems a bit silly if they did:)

Did you argue this point when Brown took over from Blair?

I'd quite happily see Corbyn replaced as PM by someone else competent within a Labour government...the problem would be finding someone! ;)

If...the EU negotiations come down to brinkmanship, then how does the Corbyn approach of being all nice to the EU team help secure us the best deal?

I don't see the USA or China negotiating with the EU by offering them freebies and cupcakes. They go in hard.

    I can tell you why.

It's in no small part because of the vehement and vocal pro-EU protagonists who just for example insisted that May had no mandate to negotiate Brexit or to organise the negotiation of Brexit.
It's because of the vehement and vocal pro-EU protagonists who insist even now that most of the voting UK do not in fact want Brexit.

Well there ya go - it's thanks to YOU in very large part that Theresa May called a General Election.
    Political advantage?
Well you have to say something like that after you've been squawking for the better part of a year, don't you? Or at least, you gotta say something. It's just that no matter what you say, it's not going to improve your pro-EU argument or prevent you from looking as unreasonable as you now do.

If you don't want Brexit, vote LibDem. If you don't want May but want Brexit (and mega-debt for a future UK) vote Corbyn. Roll on June 8th. And don't worry BobQ, I feel certain you will find much to whinge about post-GE too.

So nothing to do with the 24% lead in the polls at the time she called the election :-)

First I will state I am voting for May but surely a lot of the seats are safe Labour or safe conservative etc, no matter what the polls are saying it would be impossible for them to change hands no matter what goes on with each party and the polls are saying leading up to the election.

I think the Conservatives have messed up in reading to much into the early polls, I think their manifesto is a boring one but one that can be realistically delivered.

Labour's manifesto is going to gain a few votes but I doubt they could deliver much of it without bankrupting the country, I also get the feeling a lot of the promises will come to nothing.
Corbyn made some statement about raising benefits so most on benefits probably think vote Corbyn because I will get more but he didn't say what benefits if all or how much etc unless I missed that?

I keep hearing that to save the NHS you need to vote labour but surely if the NHS is going to survive long term then it needs to be financially sustainable.

People assume that if Corbyn doesn't replace trident then it will leave more for the NHS but would that take us below the 2% NATO agreement that Trump was moaning about last week?

I don't see the need to Worry about the EU either, i see it they will suffer more than us if there are higher taxes on trade etc.

I don't have a problem with changing PM mid term but in fairness it was different with Blair/Brown as Blair made it clear that he would stand down before the next election so the electorate knew what they were voting for.

Going into negotiations hard (and threatening to be very difficult) tends to just result in abrasive meetings (which work if both sides are equally hard). But trying to be friendly and honest about it can cut a lot of the arguing off, and may yield better results.

Corbyn seems to know what he wants and I don't think it's incompatible with the EU, and he's refusing to consider a no-deal option*. May on the other hand doesn't seem to know beyond a few incompatible buzz words and thinks no deal is better and seems to be incapable of doing anything but annoying the EU team.

*There is a risk here that admitting that we won't walk away to WTO weakens our hand a bit, but lets me honest here; May's only bluffing about that anyway and the EU knows it. Her husband & peers would lose a fortune if we went WTO.

That's what we thought about Labour seats up here, and they pretty much all vanished overnight. It's really dangerous to assume that seats are safe because people may either not bother voting or making a protest vote.
