So in conclusion. Don't believe everything you read. The only thing on which i would agree is that accommodation can be expensive for the uninitiated.

We've been to Capri a few times and like it a lot, despite the prices. If you want to save money, best to stay in or near Anacapri, but if you want a lively nightlife and people watching, it can only be Capri town.

We find it a great island for walking, with the west coast walk from Faro to the Blue Grotto being our favourite part of the island. Also, you have the loop up to the Roman villa, the walk near the Faraglioni, the steps between the port and Anacapri and also Mount Solaro.

You can also do boat trips around the island and along the Amalfi coast. Then of course you can do day trips to Sorrento and Pompeii.

Having stayed there and Sorrento, I'd take Capri every time. It's a different place at night after the day trippers go, and can be as lively, quiet, glamorous, ordinary, expensive or not too expensive as you choose to make it.

Anacapri is by far the better part for us. Lovely to walk around and eat outside. And shops are realistic to buy from.

    Things to do -

as said previously the funicular from the harbour to the main shopping area
    chairlift
Blue Grotto (from harbour. Small boat to entrance then swap over to smaller boat to go inside cavern) Or walk/bus down from Anacapri
Hire a small powerboat down next to the bus station at the main harbour and sail around the island at your leisure(they will even provide a cool box if requested)

For several years we have rented a small villa on the Med side of the island and it's so refreshing.

    Fantastic place to spend time
