they say that i will be charged if they find water damage, but I was under the impression that it was waterproof? does anyone know what vodafone will charge? is there an obvious indicator inside the phone for water damage?
it was only in for a split second and only half of the device.

There's usually several coloured paper labels inside the phone which turn a different colour when wetted and then stay that colour. If the labels have changed colour or have been tampered with or are missing, the guarantee is void. However, if the phone is claimed to be waterproof, rather than water resistant, that's a whole other argument.0

The Galaxy S7 edge and S7 go everywhere you go. Up to 30 minutes or 1.5 meters under. We've also worked out how to completely seal off the inside components whilst keeping micro USB ports, earphone jacks open, so you won't have to fiddle with extra caps or covers.

Thanks, i'm a bit confused by that - it just claims to be water resistant but says something about 30 mins (in water)? Surely if it is that good with water even if it has the paper inside it then it wont of changed colour on a quick dip?0 -
That's a clumsy link, and I can't find that exact statement, however going to the Samsung page and searching finds this:With theGalaxy S7 edge and S7, you don't have to worry about putting your phone down on wet surfaces. You can carry on using it even after dropping it in water. You can play games by the pool, post selfies at the beach and call for a cab in the rain. They've been awarded an IP (Ingress Protection) rating of 68.
*Can be immersed in 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes.

IP68 has a ceritified definition under IEC standard 60529.
The 6 refers to:No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight). A vacuum must be applied. Test duration of up to 8 hours based on air flow.
The 8 refers to:The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that it produces no harmful effects. The test depth and/or duration is expected to be greater than the requirements for IPx7, and other environmental effects may be added, such as temperature cycling before immersion.====0 -
The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer.
My guess is that Samsung exclude wet water .0 -

Samsung specify it as *Can be immersed in 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes.
They'd struggle to use liquid ingress as a get out imo.====0 -
I was looking for the Samsung advert where the guy drops his s7 into the kitchen sink full of water, and found this advert instead.

I very much doubt Samsung can say the phone isn't designed to be capable of a bit of immersion...====0 -

It's still clumsy.Up to 30 minutes or 1.5 meters under.
Under what? A pillow? A blanket? A big pile of feathers?
It hardly states what is needed, I wouldn't rely on that quote if I was in court trying to prove why an IP68 phone had water damage and the manufacturer or retailer was refusing to repair...====0 -
I think the issue people are having though is that it's their word against Samsung's about how long or how deep the phone was submerged for.
It's easy for Samsung, seeing water damage, to maintain that the phone was immersed in water in conditions other than they state that it can cope with.
Or your phone has previously taken a fall and appeared alright but in actual fact the waterproofing has been compromised.
Waterproofing on phones makes a great selling point, but I'm pretty nervous about letting my S7 anywhere near water.0
