Dog eating grass in the mornings

My 10 month old border collie has suddenly started eating grass on his first walk of the day, he has not done it before and doesn't eat any the rest of the day.
I know that it is normal for a dog to eat grass when they have an upset tum but there has been no indication of anything wrong in that area.
Could he be missing something in his diet or is it something else?

It's most likely just the fresh spring grass covered in morning dew being irresistible to him, I'm in a number of dog based Facebook groups and this exact question comes up a few times a week this time of year every year and while there can be other reasons for it, it is usually as simple as the fresh shoots are sweet and tasty.0

Some dogs just like grass, especially in a morning when it's fresh and dewy.
I used to watch four cavaliers grazing on the lawn and altered the old mnemonic for music as ' All cavs eat grass'.0 -
My dog likes to eat my grass just after I have fertilised it. I gather it is something in the fertiliser (bone meal perhaps?) that he is attracted to.
Perhaps the grass where you are walking your pup has also been recently fertilised?Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
..one size fits all... and nobody minds if you give it back.☆.。.:*・° Housework is so much easier without the clutter ☆.。.:*・°SPC No. 5180 -

Makes perfect sense now that I see it written down.
Thanks :T :T :T0 -

Yes my 2 cavs like fresh morning grass. Only problem is they throw up soon after eating it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

My two oldies don't bother now,but the foursome looked like small herd of red and white cows, grazing.
They weren't sick after this grazing, but if they had tummy upsets and were sick, they had eaten the courser grass that sprouts up in places not easy to mow.0 -

Ours goes round, checking different grasses and herbs, until he finds the one he needs that day.
Like yours, if his tummy is upset, he goes for rougher, wide-leaved grasses.0 -
My dogs graze like ponies for a few weeks after a good rainfall. They have favourite grass patches!0

Turns out he was/is not well
He has had all last night and today, it started at 6pm and again at 9:30pm and I was up to take him out at 1am, 3am and 5:30am.
I don't know what caused it as I have not changed his feed in any way, he must have picked up something when out on a walk.
I cut back on his food and treats today then gave him boiled rice and grilled burger meat at teatime, he has not had a runny poo this evening (as yet)0 -
For future reference, Gitdog eats grass when he has indigestion first thing in the morning. He grabs mouthfuls till he makes himself sick then carried on as if nothing has happened. Pointless trying to stop him, he's better off getting whatever it is out of his system although I'm still trying to identify which scraps I give him set him off.
Hope yours is feeling better this morning. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
