Hello lovely forumites, just popped over from MFW where I usually hang out to ask which currency is best for Turkey.
We have been a few times and I can never remember!
Am I correct in thinking they prefer Euro but then round everything up??
Very grateful for any advice - thank you!

Pay (and discuss price) only in the national currency, Turkish lire. Disregard any ideas of what merchants may 'prefer'. As said, a better rate than cash exchange can be obtained by paying (in lire) or withdrawing from an ATM with a suitable fee-free card.Evolution, not revolution0

We've always taken £'s & swapped in TurkeyPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0

Monzo or Revolut and just use in shops and ATM's as you would in the U.K. and get the MasterCard rate which is pretty much unbeatable with no fees.
Revolut does gave a £200 pcm ATM limit but Monzo is a bit more generous. I've travelled the world and turkey using these cards for three years.
Top up the day before or before you visit the ATM then you aren't giving anyone a free loan.0 -

....and they pay you back by not charging for ATM withdrawals abroad and passing on the full Mastercard exchange rate with no deductions.0 -
