Hi, no powershell is a bit different ..
If you dont see the command prompt option, then you can type CMD into the search box (dont press enter), and then when the black command prompt option appears, RIGHT click it and choose run as administrator.
The command just adds an entry into the registry that registers the device as a dvd device.
This has fixed similar issues for some users..
Samsung drivers can be a pain to find (which is what you're going to have to do if the above doesnt work for you)
But you are right to steer well clear of most of the options that appear in search engines when you start looking for drivers ..
Let us know how you get on and ill try to help further if i can
Edit : there seems to be an errant space in my command above, it should read :
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
Agghh , its done it again !! There should be NO space breaking up the word "controller"0 -

Oddly enough I've got a similar drive (SH-224FB) and it's always been a bit flakey ... had it for about 18 months now!
I think I'll be buying something different next time round.0 -
Ok couple of extra points - I had a virtual drive installed (probably to do with reading an ISO image in the past). I've uninstalled that using add/remove programs (or is it apps these days?) Now VLC can read and play audio tracks. Drive still doesn't recognise a DVD.
Also the device was migrated configured and started at the same date that the Creators update was applied
Device SCSI\CdRom&Ven_TSSTcorp&Prod_CDDVDW_SH-222BB\4&10ed5902&0&050000 was migrated.
Last Device Instance Id: SCSI\CdRom&Ven_TSSTcorp&Prod_CDDVDW_SH-222BB\4&10ed5902&0&050000
Class Guid: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Location Path:
Migration Rank: 0x0
Present: true
Also I have just found and checked the motherboard user's manual it's a Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 and I can't find any mention of a SCSI interface.0 -
This sounds like the laser's gone in the drive. The fact it happened during the Creators Update is more likely to be coincidence.
if you have access to another computer, swap the CD drives over and if the problem follows with it, the laser's done and you'll need to replace the DVD drive. No amount of faffing around in the registry, Driver Booster or anything will fix what is a hardware problem.0 -

I would still try the drive itself on another computer, and if the problem follows with it, then the laser has gone.0

So sound works, but that uses the thin audio cable. How abour you have the ide port wrongly cabled, or drive wrongly jumpered orfaulty cabled?0

If the drive worked correctly prior to the update, and has not been physically been reconfigured with regard to cabling, not likely to be this...
OP, have you tried AndyPix's suggestions above?? Still sounds like a case of W10 either borking the driver or something has changed within W10 to prevent the drive operating properly...
..we've seen these things happen with sound cards and wifi adapters already due to W10 updates, shouldn't be surprised if optical drives get it too..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Hi GunJack, Yes have tried AndyPix's sugestion (but not since I uninstalled the clone drive). Perhaps worth trying again.
I'll try tomorrow, when I've got a bit more time.0
