Returning used/opened items bought online

Hi everyone, recently ordered some computer parts from morecomputers.com which arrived last Friday 19th May. I'd like to return 2 of them for a refund now. I've opened and used both items. The items are a motherboard and power supply, so nothing like software or perishable items, or stuff that can be used up. They are in full working order, I simply don't want them anymore. I haven't been refused a refund yet but think this may happen due to the wording on their website and e-mails they've sent me, which state that "the distance selling regulations DO NOT allow a trial period of use". I don't think this is true but I thought I'd ask on here just in case. Here's a link to their returns policy: morecomputers.com/returns.aspx
Thanks everyone!

The consumer contract regulations don't allow the retailer to refuse to accept the used goods back for a change of mind return but what they do allow them to do is reduce the refund to you if you have gone beyond reasonable inspection of those goods and this has diminished their value. The reduced refund can be up to the full price paid.
You can generally test and examine goods to the same degree as in a shop and as I can't see that a shop would allow you to fit a motherboard and power supply into your computer, I personally don't think that you are entitled to a return and refund.0 -
Oh that's really not what I wanted to here, I've returned many items before and never had any issues with them being used, and the government page on giving returns/refunds says nothing about used goods so I thought it'd be OK, seems there's always hidden clauses and we aren't really protected as consumers at all
. Hopefully they accept the return and give me the full price, it's in the original box and very carefully packaged with all the original stuff, so very easy for them to sell again, I just don't think I deserve this as nothing was made clear to me... so stressed right now, I just have this feeling they're gonna be pr*cks about it from the way they've worded things. Anyway thanks for your help, hopefully they are a decent company and give me the full refund, I guess I'll find out tomorrow or whenever they reply to my request. 0 -
Is that not akin to buying an item of clothing, wearing it once, then returning it because you've just changed your mind and expecting the retailer to take the hit? The items aren't faulty, you've just decided you don't want them - why should they give a full refund for something they now unlikely to be able to sell again at full price? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
There returns policy means nothing and is null and void as their is no such act as Distance Selling Regulations anymoreHi everyone, recently ordered some computer parts from morecomputers.com which arrived last Friday 19th May. Well like I said I've never had a problem before and done my best to repackage it. Also maybe this will help you understand my situation, I bought lots of computer parts, most of them from amazon, but some from morecomputers, and basically the build didn't go quite as planned, the case I was using was very small, and I had a very powerful CPU, and I couldn't really get it stable without overheating. I always knew this was a possibility and I just assumed like everything else I've returned it'd be fine to return it used, I only saw the clause about returning used items AFTER i'd ordered the stuff in an e-mail, so this wasn't made clear to me at all. Just so stressed right now I've got enough going on don't need any more things to worry about

On 13 June 2014 the Distance Selling Regulations were replaced with the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. These apply to sales of goods or services to consumers without face-to-face contact.

Would you like to pay for a new item that a customer has previously used and then returned?0

May be you should look at yourself before accusing retailers about being unreasonable (I won't repeat you term for them). You do have consumer rights and they do work but they have to be equitable for both parties. Both the DSRs or the newer CCRs are not there for you to try before you buy.Oh that's really not what I wanted to here, I've returned many items before and never had any issues with them being used, and the government page on giving returns/refunds says nothing about used goods so I thought it'd be OK, seems there's always hidden clauses and we aren't really protected as consumers at all
