I'm a Pom who is currently living in Australia. I will be moving back to Blighty, (Cornwall,) in Jan 2018. I would like, and will probably need, ADSL speed connections as I will still be keeping close contact with friends and relatives in Aus via the net and social media.
How long in advance will I need to contact providers to get my house rigged for ADSL?
How do I find out if my house can get ADSL for that matter?
Is it possible to sign up for broadband while I am still over here? (I have a British bank account.)
What factors should I consider before ordering a "package"?
Any and all help gratefully received.
Thom

You were given the info on the BT forums.0

I was given one figure on the BT forum, and that only applies to BThttp://dslchecker.bt.com Shows what speeds will be available.
It usually takes around 7-10 working days for a line/broadband to be activated.
The dslchecker site only works if you have an existing telephone number there, I don't
I thought there may be a wider range of ideas here.“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”0 -

Depends upon rigging >>> service at the premises already or its wired/ cabled a few weeks would be normal .

Postcode checker will give an idea of local services in the area .

ADSL IS THE norm here. Which is upto 17mbps (depending on distance from exchange)
The faster connection is know as fibre and it available in approx. 2 speeds
The highest is 78mbps ?0 -

They all work roughly to the same time frame. There is only one company that does same day broadband and they only operate in London. The dslchecker site only works if you have an existing telephone number there, I don't
On https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ it says
"If you do not have a telephone number or access line id, please select the
Address Checker or the Postcode Checker or the BBEU Checker"0 -

As far as I can tell we're 1 1/2 miles from the exchange, is that too far?“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”0 -
Dear god... (Got a number for the place off my letting agents>)
BT BROADBAND AVAILABILITY CHECKER
Welcome to the Broadband Availability checker. This will provide a provisional check of your ability to receive reliable Broadband services.
Please enter your telephone number.
There is no data available for this number. This could be either because it is not a BT line or it is a new BT number that has just been provided. Most new numbers will appear on the checker 24 hours after BT has installed the line.

That sounds a good distance for good speed.
At a complete guess you should be able to get ~7Mbps.
which is perfectly good
I'm suprised at the uswtich figure. If I were to believe that (have other figures online which agree) I would be investigating fibre0
