HOW MUCH?!?!? for a kitchen?

We had a large kitchen (18 units), laminate worktop & all built in appliances, including a range for £7500 from Wren. There were a couple of issues on the design that were frustrating but all fixed in the end.

What does your quote include?

Even with all the labour, new boiler, electrics and plaster-work ours came out at less than £12k.

They have a reputation for being a nightmare to deal with and not delivering everything you ordered.

DIY Kitchens on the other hand are excellent from personal experience.

Are you comparing like for like? So both totals include units, installation, worktop, sink, taps, tiling, flooring and so on?

You haven't broken down what's included in your £15k quotes so no-one can say if it's cheap or expensive. My kitchen cost me a bit under £10k but that was with mostly second hand units, me doing all the labour apart from the electrics (three new circuits needed), removal of the gas supply and plastering and included a slate floor, UFH, new composite back door etc. No two kitchen jobs are the same, a bare figure conveys very little.

The best thing to do is go and get a quote from both, look at the prices and make sure you’re not being conned by the staff or a ridiculous 1st price. Pricing should be highly visible. Then look online for any feedback and comments about them and then based on all that, make your choice. Bear in mind that no company is 100% perfect though.

DIY kitchens don't warranty the design, if you get it wrong its your fault, DIY kitchens don't warranty the order completeness, you forget to order something, its your fault. DIY kitchens don't warranty the installation, your fitter breaks something, that's your fault.

Its a lot easier to do well, when you don't do the hard bits.

(not sticking up for any other company here and I think they are great at what they do)

But you know that when you order from them. That is why they are called DIY Kitchens. You have to do the ordering etc yourself. I made a mistake on my order and I had to sort it out because it was my fault.

and that's my point, its easy to do the easy bits well, recommending them as a kitchen company is just pushing the risk onto another decision.

comparing wren and DIY kitchens is not fair.

Compare Wren (or any other all in one company) to DIY kitchens + self appointed designer + self appointed fitter, and you'll find the DIY option isn't as easy or cheap.

We put a Wren kitchen in. No problems at all. Bought it on one of their sales and got a £9k kitchen for half price. Really pleased with it, but we've sold the house now.
