As the great(est) money-saving site member, I would be more sympathetic with DavidP24's position.

From my own (boring!) business IT background, I want you to review your own IT spending budget so far first lol

... last uprgraded my late 2011 macbook 4 to 8 g ram and aded Samsung Evo+existing hdd caddy-the ssd flew then I wnet late 2013 macbook both i5's though after a few years thought I wasn't getting full use hence since sold via ebay and went Ipad air since last year.
Still got the philips and torx screwdriver sets -I think building a p.c. Would allow more room t.b.h. Though I don't want to risk making a mistake and return parts etc.

2011 macbook. Samsung Evo, 2013 macbook (sold ) Ipad ... I don't get the detail, but it seems you may have got the latest brand new most expensive ones, and use for relativity short time (2-3 years) and moves to new one. How much you have spend so far including interest payment? Just review your IT strategy.

PC industry have been still very deflationary business. The brand new latest one is sold at an inflated price to cover initial R&D and massive advertisement cost. Within a year or two, the price would be significantly lower.

It seems you would intend to pay 30% interest to get the latest devices, the value of which would be significantly lower in a couple of years. This would not help your computer experience in a long term, (that's why you would keep replacing your stuff ?) Obviously this won't help to strengthen your financial position as well.

How long do you intend to use your newly purchased computer? What would be your IT gadget for next 5 years?

I am not saying you shouldn't buy a PC, I intend to give more precise analysis to get the best possible cost performance gaming PC without weakening your own financial position :) You would notice each devices characteristics. For instance, video card, SSD still will be very deflationary, CPU is very stable (last 5 years or so. CPU cost/performance is flat)

You may want to get the best possible performance NOW with 30 % interest payment. (and dump your computer in a couple of years ?) But I would get the best cost effective 5 years plan first. I would reduce the initial investment and keep some funds for future upgrade. This would be very beneficial for you. Reduce interest payment, Get a better computer performance in a long term.

I would consider future upgradablity to keep running cost low for 3-5 years use at least. It may be possible to increase your user experience in a long term without damaging your financial position.

    Happy computing !

I have recently been offered a second card by Tesco on which I could have 30 months interest free on purchases.

Do any of your card have to option to do this, would you be able to obtain an interest free purchases card?

You could use it purely for this then either get rid or stop using it.

The thing is that this site means different things to different people, some people NEED to save money to survive, other WANT to save money.

It is the same with your gaming PC, without being judgemental, you do not NEED to even play games never mind get into further debt to fund one.

That is not be telling you what you should or should not do, I have had debt that would make most people's eyes water, but also earned enough to pay £8k in tax a month. I used debt to fund a business, make up deposit for a house and even invest (getting 6% for debt that was costing me less than 0.63%).

I am probably the wrong person to ask about gaming PC's, because IMO it is just about people being persuaded to pay for a better graphics card so they can get a few better frame rates. I think PS4 et al are better platforms if you really want to play games.

On the techie forum people come in with a budget of £50 for a PC and people find them amazing systems, they also upgrade existing systems for £50 with an SSD, a 2nd hand graphics card off ebay.

With that much debt it would be nuts to get into further debt to play games, if you are able to pay off the debt and then buy your PC your credit record will be vastly improved, I have seen them double credit limit.

Yes deals are around if you are willing to look.
I am not a gamer and i have never built my own machine, but in the last 30 years i have only had 2 Dell PCs as while most people will jut dispose of their PCs after 2 or 3 years and spend another £300 on a new one i will just spend a few pounds on new memory or a new processor and upgrade until it becomes uneconomical to upgrade

but I am pretty much the same of extending the life of what I have.

I buy a PC or a Laptop with expansion in mind, I buy a pretty low end processor but an architecture that allows me to upgrade. I am also focused on power consumption.
That is why i like sites like Dell, so you have configure to suit you so it will last a few years and have room from expansion. but this time i noticed Dell dont allow as much configuration as they used too.

I never get keyboards/mice, graphics cards, sound cards as i know i can get them cheaper elsewhere

    Interesting replies thanks

Whilst I appreciate pc upgrade path I think the mentioned i5 and nvidea 1050 gtx is a nice starting point.

2nd mentioned macbook was an insurance replacement for 1st macbook.

Going to purchase i5 prop tmorrow and hope its delivered next week its been a few years since win95.

I have chosen to keep spec with upgrade room for ssd and 16 gb ram.

    see my sig-dmp in progress

chrome card is approx 30% apr aprox maybe a luttle less

ive reviwed whats the cost tonight possible to repay pc total accross 3yrs with 239 approx interest quite reasonable for my techy major pc purchase.

i have one or 2 small loans finishing next year and approx 150-175 to save mtg in a few weeks when my 5yr fix finishes@5.19% though i always consider interest rate rises possibly next few quarters ir from 2018

purchase pc tomorrow evening and run from next week and determine if i require any add on etc though think a pre built is sensible.

excellent advice from mser,s only part i havent chosen is an Asus owr similar motherboard though those self select systmes were 1k +

hope i dont have to upgrade motherboard in a year two time will tell

Well under the circumstances let me congratulate you for saving £1000 in credit on your OP.

Now you can build your credit record up, best way to do this is to over service or pay off your 30% credit cards. Most loans will offer very poor redemption so you might as well leave them in place.

    Enjoy your PS4!!
    thanks david

yeah re pay existing card time agin.
hope the ps4 is delivered in this thunder storm tonight.
