No audio suddenly

No, we've uninstalled the device and it automatically re-installed it, but we still have no audio. I've now had a barney with my DH as he's getting fed up (!!) and I don't know how to find this error report you need. Honestly, I think I'll have to make contact with the folks who built the computer for us .
Sorry, I hoped this would fix the issue
Your Windows seems to reinstall the driver properly. But you have got an error massage now "High Definition Audio Controller __This device cannot start."
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-pictures/high-definition-audio-controller-this-device/5f6b1f74-3022-4bba-a9ed-19e9d573711d
Basically the same suggestion. (uninstall the driver and reboot computer)
Sorry I could not sort out your issue ! I really appreciate your patience
The following may not be super easy, I wish someone around you would help this. The below is pure suggestion, but if someone (including your IT guy) assist you, the below would help.

Next thing I would do:
1) Disable the audio device (BIOS/ hardware setup) then start windows. (Windows will remove the audio device)
2) Enable the audio device (BIOS/hardware setup) then start Windows. and Windows will pick up the driver and setup audio device.
Then magically your sound would come back..
If not, "no audio device can be found" and "This device cannot start" - a possibility of hardware related problem..Then I would boot from Linux OS to check whether you can get the sound or not.0 -

What make and model of PC do you have?
Long Shot: You need to know if you have one or two souncards installed - just count the speaker plug holes. There usually is only be one on the whole PC- often green. Take some clear photos of the front and back too. While the camera is out please tack pictures of all the devices in device manager
What is going through my mind (a) multiple sound cards (b)on board sound disabled in bios (c) speaker plugged into wrong hole (d) duff sound card (e) usb headphones/
Try those speakers via the PC cable plug in another friends PC or laptop. Do they play?
Lastly, next to the High Definition Audio Controller there is a yellow circle find out what the warning is
For the warning above type Start evenvwr.msc and check the system logs. There are often quite a few yellow and red ones. The audio ones may give you a clue.
May as well read this and have a go: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-update/system-file-check-sfc-scan-and-repair-system-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a930 -
I can't thank you all enough for your help. We've tried headphones too and audio just does not exist.
I'm going to contact the company (Chillblast ) that made us this computer and see if they can talk us through what to do.
Basically they made us a basic pc for normal home use that would also have a decent graphics card, so minecraft could be played. We've only had it a month
Apart from this issue we've been happy with it.
This is a great community and again, I want to say I appreciate all efforts to help. I will let you know what they say.

marrbett, I hope by the time you have read this and all is working and family is at peace.
I would like to re-introduce you to somethings that you have heard off, and hopefully you already do it - Backup ad Restores.
This forum is filled with backup methods. Apparently the backup built into windows 10 is now very good too?. Some people like me use 2 different methods file by file, and bare metal). Look through the posts and find something you are happy in using.
Make regular weekly (more if you think it is necessary) backups.
Learn how to do a restore, boot from media to do a restore.
With a backup, if you get the existing error again and was a software error/glitch, you can roll back to that point in time where everything is working and do a restore. Hardware tends to be much more reliable than fluctuating of software and new drivers and unfortunately a restore does not fix hardware errors.0 -

Just wondering - I do regular backups but only of documents, photos, music etc. Are you referring to a 'restore point'? Or maybe a restore point combined with restoring from a backup?
What exactly do you back up that would help restore, say, a software glitch in an audio driver?0 -
The advice is to backup personal data (and any programme installers and activation keys if they're not easy to come by). This is so they can be recovered if the machine needs to be wiped and reinstalled.0

Maybe issue with the sound card. You can check it on Control panel> Device Manager > Sounds, video and game controllers. There's is also a possibility that your driver is not updated. If the device is working properly. Have you tried to reboot your computer? you can also try this to resolve the issue. Hope that helps. Thanks.0

Ok, I have just downloaded some software. Before I install that software i should always make a restore point, so I can roll back. A restore point is not a backup, and with crypto viruses (except on organisations which implemented DFS) was not a Hail Mary pass. It is possibly for your system to delete restore points and also fail to create a restore point both without telling you.Just wondering - I do regular backups but only of documents, photos, music etc. Are you referring to a 'restore point'? I cant remember when I last (if ever) seen a piece of backup software which by default only allows the copying of your data
What to backup depends on risk and rewards. Strictly speaking all you need is the data, the rest can be installed. However some people want their favourites and the certain ways things are set up, layouts, and spell checkers and templates. Then there are those that always loose the windows DVD, or do not know what they are doing, and want stuff back fast - (I am in this group), and when it fails they do not want to spend the next 4 days applying service packs, configuring odd bits of software, choosing English (UK) for every app, finding their app is now on a new version and now have to purchase an upgrade, they rather spend 30 mins restoring everything and get everything back up running - a full backup is the answer.
JohnB47, my question to you is is that if your hard disk died this instant, how would you get yourself back on line in a time frame that acceptable to you. If you have no clue, then you are probably doing the wrong type of backup.0
