Data usage

I have been with Vodafone now for over 10 years
my average phone bill was £80-£100 each month (as a small business user)
Last May my bill went up to £300 followed by a £1300 for the following month
When I asked Vodafone what this was due to they told me that my data usage was 82 GB per month
I then asked them to check this out and it took them until September to respond (in this time my bill had gone up a further £3900)
I was told to contact the ombudsman who would look into this for me but they came back with absolutely nothing of any use
My outstanding bill is now over £6300
Is there any useful advice

Why do you need to ask anyone else how much you've used? It's very basic; set a log on the phone, monitor it and calculate the excess used over your allowance by the charges for that. I never rely on anyone else to tell me what I've used and never understand why anyone would.

Either you used that amount or you did not. Your phone should be able to tell you.

OP why do you not have a handle on he much data you use.

Again another Vodafone complaint or a possible 1.

As others mentioned using 82 GB per month (or not and being billed for it) sounds ridiculous. Even when I had an "all you can eat" data package (Three currently offer 6 SIM only plans with AYCE data), I never managed to use anywhere close to half the amount used by the OP in a month...

I am always on the lookout for a better deal than the SIM only I have with Three, but wouldn't touch Vodafone with a barge pole as they currently have no comprehension of over spending caps.

Maybe the Digital Economy Bill that came into UK law last month will have an impact on the likes of Vodafone. It's supposed to mandate measures to prevent bill shock, although the bill itself seems woolly - there's a thread on this forum on the subject.

The Digital Economy Bill is unlikely to apply to Business users.

Typically, on business tariffs the out of bundle rate is high. OP, if you have an Android or iPhone look at the data usage and check if it's equivalent to the charges on your bill. If it is then the right thing to do is pay.

While you're in the settings set a data limit just under your monthly allowance to stop you going over. Install the Vodafone business app so you can keep a closer eye on your bills.

The fact you've not mentioned what your average monthly data usage is or what data allowance your plan includes makes this seem like a tale.
  • My allowance was 20GB of 4G data per month for £16.99 per month
I normally payed around £80-£100 per month in total (including phone calls)
    For the last 10years
But no contact from Vodafone when it went up to 82GB
  • Why would I make this kind of thing up I'm looking for some solution to this problem
