.Must be something to do with Eons well publicised money problems which threatened to send them to the wall that they chose these pretty stupid but very cheap to buy smart meters.which constantly cause reading problems. They even have a daft almost invisible decimal point to make matters worse and displaying the gas in kwhs on the IHD is sensible IMO but will obviously lead to problems with the unwary.0 -

I do in fact know some people who were e.on customers and who have Elster smart meters the same as I have from Scottish Power. I know that because I helped them manually read them. (With the elec meter press the top button repeatedly and with the gas meter press any button to illuminate the display and the reading is there).
I am very surprised by the reply from the e.on rep: So e.on started with one meter make and then jumped ship not only once but twice to other makes of smart meters. What also surprises me is that e.on can apparently get readings from all of them but apparently not from the same make of smart meter installed by other energy suppliers. Roll on the DCC eh.0 -
No, the majority of meters I think will still be Elsters or Landis Gyrs . Eon jumped ship after installing SMETS1 meters for quite a few years to the much cheaper, and awful Secure Liberty bargain basement meters last year which all the smaller suppliers now appear to fit .I have been reading meters for many years on behalf of Eon when I am sent out of area to York. I have seen their original smart meters in operation for around 5 years and they were Landys Gyrs mostly with some Siemens gas meters as well

As above Houbara, we've installed a mixture of Elster, Landis & Gyr and Secure Liberty smart meters since we first started this project several years ago.
The SMETS2 meters we're installing now are Landis & Gyr.
Hope this is of interest.

Spot on Anthorn. The top button on Elster electricity smart meters is key. It lights up the display and repeated presses allow customers to cycle through each screen. With Elster gas smart meters, pressing any button will wake up the display and show the reading.
The capabilities of and the technology behind smart meters has continued to develop and change over the years. This has led us to use different types of smart meters with different capabilities as we've looked to develop and improve our roll-out. As above, in the past, we've used Elster, Landis & Gyr and Secure Liberty smart meters.
One make hasn't replaced another. Rather, we've been installing the above at similar times depending on the region and the metering set-up at individual properties. Having said that, the SMETS2 meters we're installing at residential properties now are Landis & Gyr.
As above, as well as installing SMETS2, we'll soon start upgrading many of the SMETS1 meters we've already fitted so they work in a similar way to SMETS2. Previously, SMETS1 were installed before the Data Communications Company (DCC) infrastructure was in place. This meant each supplier had set up their own individual data communications arrangements to operate their SMETS1 meters. It was these individual arrangements that helped lead to SMETS1 meters losing smart features following a change of supplier.
Hope this is of interest Anthorn.
