Any tips for moving in/painting & decorating?
    1. Take your tea-making apparatus with you in the car - kettle, teapot if you use one, mugs, tea leaves/bags, sugar if you take it, little thermos of milk if you take it in tea.
That way you can stop for a cuppa without searching boxes.

    2. Take a time out to catch your breath and enjoy having your own place before you fret about painting/decorating. When you do get started with it, take your time, Rome wasn't built in a day; and make sure you have good safe ladders and enlist help if you need it (says she who painted a very awkward stairwell totally alone and unaided, many years ago).

If it was me, I'd make a list (inveterate list-writer here) of every task, large or small, that wants doing; I'd also use colour-coding to identify tasks that can be done together, eg paint skirting board in lounge, likewise in hall etc (yes, I'd have it listed separate for each room). Very satisfying when you can tick things off your list. :D

Best of luck with your move; we shall be waiting with baited breath to hear when the house-warming party is. ;)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

With that in mind, my morning routine will now be out the window so it might be a while before I'm back on. I'm flying the nest and I can't wait :) Thanks to all you on here who've just simply been here throughout the last couple of years as I go from being in debt to saving for a mortgage. You're awesome!

Any tips for moving in/painting & decorating?

Good Luck Specky hope the move goes well, as for the decorating once you get going you will be fine, but if you need specific advice ask away, I am an old hand at decorating and have come across most problems xxx

    Good news.

Solicitor eventually got back to me and confirmed all is in order for tomorrow!!! I went through the invoice line by line over the phone and they admitted to adding £95 'accidentally'. Now awaiting a new invoice and that'll be me!!

Speky good luck. To add to emergency list:

Loo roll, wet wipes, bin bags and spare light bulbs. The previous owners of our place took all the bulbs with them:eek:

A bottle of something to celebrate - and a bottle opener. :D

    Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o
  • Congratulations Specky......

I have always found it pays to live in a place for a couple of months before doing any decorating, just take a note as the days go by and decide which room is the most urgent and do that first.

Make sure you have all the equipment you need before you start, nothing worse than getting halfway through a job and discovering there is something you need and you haven't got it.

Above all enjoy your new home.

Specky I am so pleased for you I wish you wel in your new home and may you have many happy days and years there glad you found the 'accidently added £95.00':)That will buy you something nice for your home .or better still take your super Granny out for a meal, she sounds lovely, and as a Granny I think all Granny's should be spoiled :):):)

Main thing is to make sure you have your bed sorted out and a kettle for a cuppa the rest can wait until you are settled As someone who moved house the first three years of my married life nine times !! I became an old hand at it .
Label the boxes for which ever room you want the stuff to go in before you move then just deposit the boxes in the said room .

Decorating can wait until you have settled painting and decorating needs careful thought and planning.
You have to live with the colour scheme for a few years so take your time before buying. If you wait until the next Bank Holiday then usually the DIY shops are doing deals on paint etc. If you can borrow step ladders etc as unless you are going to do a lot of decorating then its quite expensive Most folk have a pasteing table and /or steps.

But good luck in your home, if you wern't 400 odd miles away I would give you a hand with the prep as I am a dab hand at sanding down and undercoating etc :):)

Wishing you all the best in your new home Speky as others have said spend some time in there and get a feel for the place first before staying decorating etc.
