Morning :hello:
Good luck Speky
My day went wrong at 8am on saturday. Neighbour knocked and said his drain was overflowing again, he's first on the run so his fills first. We took off our cover, it was filled to the top and the other neighbour's was about half-full. He'd already contacted Severn Trent, they came out quite quickly and set to work going along the road trying to find the blockage. I didn't shower, wash up, etc. til they'd finished, I didn't want to add to the flood, lol. My day didn't really start til lunchtime.
Yesterday the electricity went off at about 7.30am, there was a problem with the cabling down the road. It came back on late afternoon.
I was halfway through typing a post at the time, so copied and pasted it into Open Office. Decided to finish it there and post it later, but the laptop battery has suddenly decided not to hold it's charge and I lost it. I went online at teatime and started a Morrisons shop, got up to make a cuppa and when I came back the laptop had restarted itself – it was installing updates. I gave up after that
I'm half expecting the gas to go off today
Dad's doing well. When I arrived he was dozing and looked a bit frail, it was strange to see. But then he got up to nip to the loo, and walked off with his usual loping strides and I thought 'oh there you are' lol. Then it occurred to me that I don't see him asleep in bed, perhaps that's just what he looks likeThey're pleased with his progress and he should be home later today, he just needs to see the doctor first.
I couldn't do much yesterday, it's nice for a couple of hours but it gets boring very quickly. So I emptied all the food out of the cupboards, sorted it, cleaned everything then put it all back with military precisionIt took me all day, I kept stopping to exercise my hip (it really doesn't like me to kneel down) and keep my shoulder still for a while. I was a bit achy when I finished but no pain, so I must've got the balance right, lol.
Last week felt very disjointed. I'm hoping for a normal week, I haven't planned it properly yet but that doesn't matter as long as it's quiet. So far, so good

Dumpling, I hope you get the extra help for DD sorted out quickly.
Best wishes to everyone starting exams this week.
Speky, I hope you manage to get your solicitors sorted out - when we sold mum's house I had to keep sending ours the same information time and again, for the amounts they charge the service should be better. I know Hester had problems as well.
We had a busy weekend, down to DD's twice to try to help sort their house. The electrician was there to finish off the kitchen and certify the installation in the rest of the house so that is a big tick in the box. We also picked up DS and DiL from stansted airport at midnight on Saturday, they'd had a lovely time in Sicily. She has one more week at home before she starts her new job.
I need to go and bank a cheque I'd forgotten about - it's not simple nowadays with all the bank closures. I also want to post a card to a friend of DD's who has had a tumour removed from her thyroid. She's a lovely woman but has been through a lot in the last few years, I hope things get better for her now!0 -
Good morning everyone, thanks to nmlc for starting the thread and hugs to anyone that needs one.
It is a miserable morning here with the rain chucking it down and I wouldn't be surprised if we got thunder. Unfortunately the rapid change in weather pressure has knocked my balance off so I'll not be attempting anything too adventurous until it settles though I could do with sweeping and mopping the kitchen and dining room.
I managed to get some planting done yesterday, I'm trying a herb area on an old bench and so far I'm quite pleased with the result. I also ordered some salad leaf seeds so hopefully they'll come in the next few days.
Not sure about meals yet - sausage and mash I think given the weather and I have mash in the freezer so don't need to faff about making that.
Hope everyone has a good day x0 -
Morning all
Had a lovely long lay in this morning I must have needed it as I missed a call both on my mobile and the house phone, never mind I am sure they will ring back !
Pouring with rain here so wont be going out much, madam will want her walk to the park but that will do us, will have a quick tidy round after this and sort dinner out which is yet to be decided.
Might have a visit to our new aldi tomorrow and have a stock up shop but might wait till the weekend when OH can come and help (he loves shopping I hate it !)
Dumpling thinking of your poor dd and you and hoping the nurse can help xx
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
The wine I bought yesterday wasn't really to my taste, I'm mildly 'disappointed' that my current favourite fictional detective drinks and enjoys it. :rotfl:Didn't finish it and don't think I will.
The rain has reached us, so I'm glad I did a bit of tidying in the garden yesterday (was the first time I'd left the house in four days).
Unfortunately it means that the WM load of Mr LW's clothes I did first thing this morning have to be dried on A-frames over the bath.
Oh well, the garden could use the moisture. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Morning all from a soggy and windswept Devon.
The winds have died down somewhat but it is still persisting it down with rain, however the weatherman says it should be gone by 4pm and back again tonight and into tomorrow.
Never mind we are hunkered down for today with plenty supplies of food, especially of the sweeties sort !
Tomorrow we were going to Bude but if its wet we shall visit Trago Mills in Newton Abbott instead, as everything is under cover.
I shall be cooking gammon and wedgies for tea and there are some scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam for pudding - if they make it that far.
Good vibrations to all those starting GCSE's.
Hugs to all those who want or need one
Righty ho I'm off to read another book, I must be slipping as I've only read two so far :rotfl:.
Keep safe and dry everyone.
nanFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Oh no, that's really disappointing. Can you use up the rest of the bottle to make a wine sauce to go with something?
I've poured it into an ice-cubes bag and stuck it in the freezer. It'll be good for something else.
It's pouring down here. I've only emptied the dishwasher so far, just sitting down doing stuff on the laptop whilst I really want to go outside and put up some climbing wire for my clematis!0 -
Good news.
Solicitor eventually got back to me and confirmed all is in order for tomorrow!!! I went through the invoice line by line over the phone and they admitted to adding £95 'accidentally'. Now awaiting a new invoice and that'll be me!!
With that in mind, my morning routine will now be out the window so it might be a while before I'm back on. I'm flying the nest and I can't waitThanks to all you on here who've just simply been here throughout the last couple of years as I go from being in debt to saving for a mortgage. You're awesome!
Any tips for moving in/painting & decorating?0 -

Huge congratulations Speky. I hope you'll be wonderfully happy in your new home. I've always brought in trades to do decorating so can't help.0
