O/S Daily Monday 15 May 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, clear sky and sunshine, but forecast is not so good later in the day.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit.

Lunch yesterday was a roast chicken, roasties, carrots, cauli in cheese sauce, broc, peas, yorkshires (LO that had been frozen from a previous roast) and gravy, it wasn't going to be such a big meal, but menfolk wanted yorkshires and it was too late to make from scratch, so luckily I had some in the freezer. (It's also good that was something used up out of the freezer, I'm trying to use up stocks from the freezer, I seem to have loads of odd bits and pieces). Tonight we'll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Yesterday looked like it was going to be a horrible day as it was raining steadily when we woke up, but luckily it did clear and then dry up and we had long spells of sunshine, so we were able to do the jobs we had planned, we visited the big orange diy store, and managed to get the tomato plants and runner bean plants that we wanted, also the compost/grow bags, I also got a lovely pot of herbs, as I prefer cooking with fresh - we'll see if these last. Feeling much happier now as garden is planted up, so I'll be watering the green house every morning and evening and the plants outside if it doesn't rain. Also had some other hopeful news that we've been waiting for, we'll know for definite next weekend, so just hoping that's a positive outcome.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

I’m glad I changed the duvet yesterday to the summer one because I had a much better night. I feel far more awake today.

I have got a hospital appointment this morning, having just checked that the local hospital is seeing outpatients today as they were one of the hospitals caught up in the cyber attack on Friday.

As I am now at home I have been looking for local clubs/societies to join to get out and about and meet some new people. I have been considering joining the local WI but it’s not an organisation I know much about, so I want to have a chat with the local chairperson and find out a bit more about it this morning.

Right, time for breakfast and a second mug of tea.

Have a good day everyone, take care x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's fine just now and the dratted wind has dropped but, apparently, rain is forecast for later.

We are having a trip to Boundary Mills today - about twice a year is as much as I can cope with there, it's so big and busy. The clearance section is closing at the end of the week apparently and "everything must go" as the saying goes. Hopeful of spotting some summer stuff of the smart variety! I have loads of casual stuff but very little decent dressy stuff so that's what I am on the lookout for. DD got three really nice dresses in the clearance bit a while back so hope I am as lucky! But the difference is she is a good rummager and can spend hours trawling through the racks. If I don't spot anything within the first few minutes I have had enough!! If I don't find anything at least we have a card for a free coffee!!

Will treat ourselves to a late lunch somewhere on the way home so a no cooking day for me, other than breakfast before we go and a quick snack tonight.

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad and worried who want one. Take care all xx

Good Morning everyone ,bit cloudy here in Kent at the moment but quite warm at least.
Another Monday morning and half way through may already .my how time flies by,probably quicker the older you get :) mine is whizzing at the moment :)

DGS Henry starts his GCSE's this week and it doesn't seem five minutes ago I was changing his rear end and putting his babygrows on :)Now he towers over me at just under 6ft :):):)

Pottering around morning this morning and a bit of catch-up housework for me.then after visiting a lady with new library books this afternoon (she is housebound and cannot get out ) and the obligatory cuppa :) I will go to DD's and sort out her dogs and tidy the kitchen from their mad Monday morning breakfast rush.

Probably prep her veg for their evening meal and wait for the boys to come galloping in from school.Hopefully henry will tell me how absolutely easy his first exam was :):):) He seems quite relaxed about it all at least.

Not much in the way of cooking for me tonight as I came home from Dds with a plate of left over roast beef and veg from last nights dinner, so only gravy to make and zap it all in the microwave

Hope everyone has a good day and the sun shines down on you all
    Gers I have PM'd you :)

    Cheers chums JackieO xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It was raining when I woke up early but it seems to have left us for now but it is very grey outside. Hubby has left for work and the girls are flitting around. DD15 has her first GCSE this week and she has her fingers crossed that she does well. DD17 has her first exam today but she feels fairly confident about it as it is her favourite subject. DD14 has had a horrendous night so she will be staying home with me safe and sound today.

I am up and dressed and ready for whatever the day may bring. I have a new hoover to play with so I will be giving it a spin later on. I also need to find the various bits and pieces like the coasters that my friend's grandson was playing with yesterday. She also brought her dog who is the brother of our old dog Sam. They look very very similar so it was as though Sam had come back for a visit. Left me a bit teary but happy.

I need to try and get hold of DD14's nurse this morning as I think she needs her. I hope the nurse is back in work this week. Things are escalating and I am feeling a bit out of my depth.

Foodwise, I am going for an easy dinner of burgers and wedges with salad. I have my weigh in tomorrow and I want another loss so I am being very careful what I eat although I did have a chocolate bar yesterday which I really enjoyed.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Good morning everyone.

Very grey and damp here today so no washing will be done. I slept really soundly and didn't wake properly until 7.30am.

Dumpling - I hope you can get more help for your DD, must be a really worrying time for you.

    JackieO - thanks!

Unless the weather clears and dries up I'll be mostly in the house today. The two new plants, (genum Mrs Bradshaw) need to be planted out but perhaps not today. I soaked them and then put them outside yesterday so they'll be fine.

The wine I bought yesterday wasn't really to my taste, I'm mildly 'disappointed' that my current favourite fictional detective drinks and enjoys it. :rotfl:Didn't finish it and don't think I will.

I've got a few deliveries due this week, a pair of shoes, curtain tension rod, three plants and a bottle of non-alcoholic 'gin'. The tension rod, for the front door fly curtain, is the most anticipated.

Food will be a green salad with a little bit of steak. I had a bit of a blow-out weekend so today I shall be frugal in my eating...again!

    Happy Monday to all.

    Morning

Miserable monday weather here today grey and raining.

Had a little bit of a break this weekend with no visiting. A lovely friend came over on Saturday night and we laughed through Eurovision and drank too much prosecco :D Yesterday my other lovely friend invited me out with the family to a safari park for a picnic and wander. i actually feel I had a break from the worry and stress for a while which i didn't realise how much I needed.

Taking mum to Morrisons today...she has decided she doesn't really like going on a Monday as she doesn't think they are ready after the weekend :rotfl: I have this vision of Morrisons staff running around in a blind panic as we walk in to "get ready" :D Anyway it makes sense to do it today as we have a clinical review with Dads consultant this morning. Quite worried about this goodness knows what he will drop on us but to be honest I am guessing it will be a 'no change' discussion.

Need to think about selling dads car now too..he is not going to drive again and its just sitting rotting in the garage so if I can sell it that will be a chunk of money for mum to maybe think about using for taxis in the future. She is refusing to go in a taxi at the moment so relies 100% on me but of course this is not always going to be possible I am going to have to go back to work soon or the coffers will be empty :(

No food planned for tonight as I will probably take mum out of lunch ..just about the last thing I want to do but it reassures me she is getting some food.

Have a lovely monday everyone whatever you are doing :)

    Good morning everyone,

Forgot to turn my phone off silent last night and slept through my alarm which meant I had to give the gym a miss this morning.

Very wet day here this morning which has been long overdue.

Tomorrow is meant to be my move in day but my solicitors are absolutely terrible and it might be delayed. So today I'll be rolling my sleeves up ready for an argument with them to try and push it through, wish my luck.

My leg was a bit sore on Sunday, I think I done too much the day previous. Shoulder feels slightly better so I'll continue to stretch throughout the day.

Tonight I'll build some flat pack furniture in the hope I get the keys tomorrow.

Hope you all have a nice day :)
  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Very dull morning and windy, I put the new fly screen up at the weekend, this morning its half down and flapping in the wind, guess I am going to have to think again. The sticky pads at the top are not holding at all..grrr.

No laundry, all done, dried and aired yesterday. I have an appointment with the nurse this morning to get a BP monitor. Dr is not happy with it. I know from past experience it goes up and down like a yo yo, the stress of OH does not do it any good either.

I need to start the ring pillow today, I want to get it done this week out of the way, the wedding is 4th June.......

Cold chicken salad tonight, I have some baby new potato's left so we will have them with it.

I have had to move the microwave, the vent is on the top, yesterday whilst cooking the chicken I noticed the trim on the bottom of the cupboard was coming unstuck, so its now on top of the small freezer. The old one vented from the sides and back, think the new design is not a good one. It does give me another free work surface though.

    Good morning wishes to everyone,

Its raining hard here and has been for a good part of the night, but everywhere is parched so not complaining. We're hoping it'll encourage the grass seed over the road that the men put down before they finished work on the landslide site-some of it has taken near the road but further back where the ground is tougher its not doing as well.

I've got a pork joint in the sc,and will decide what to serve it with nearer tea time.I meant to cook it yesterday but decided against it ,and used 2 cajun style chicken which I got from a freezer stall on the market. It was surprisingly good & quick as we'd been out.We had a ride to my friends in Clitheroe as she wants a new bathroom so DH was checking it out and will work out a price. The weather was nice yesterday afternoon so it was nice to go through the hills.

I need to unpick the lining on the dress I'm making, its not right  I hate unpicking so I may as well do that while the weather is bad.Need to sort it as I got another piece of fabric for another one and was going to use the same pattern, though I have others I can use if it doesnt turn out as well as I hope.

Right, need to get the pooch out,I suspect she'll be reluctant in this rain :D
Dumpling hope you get hold of the nurse x
