How do I get hold of them

Not quite sure why all these scammed-by-scanguard posts have suddenly come in...but stopping payments is the easy part surely; getting money back depends on how you paid but a polite phone call and/or letter with details should work.

To report the fraud/mis-sell see here

Trustpilot (if you trust them) has an interesting listing; score is 3.8/10 but their 6 listed reviews only score 1(damming) star each.

The most amusing review is "After loading scanguard my laptop would not load.."

  • I was contacted today by Homeguard who were telling me I had a policy with them which would be reduced by £3 a month. They had my banking details as well. I informed them that I already had my cover with another company and they said that no further action would be taken. The did give me a telephone number 02039510638. I telephoned their customer support and asked for all my details including any banking details be stricken from their records which she assured me would be done. I did warn her however that I would be we watching my bank like a hawk and if I see anything there, I will be contacting them again and take the matter further. This should not be allowed. Older people can get very confused and find that they are agreeing to something which could cost them dear in the long run. Very bad practice!
  • I subscribed to Scanguard in January 2018 for one year at a cost of £20. I did not renew the subscription, but this didn't stop Scanguard removing £174.94 from my account on 2nd January and "thanking" me for renewing.
I phoned them and spoke to a robotic sounding American who in the first instance told me I was "entitled" to a discount of 80%, which he would refund immediately. I suggested he do no such thing and that 100% refund was a more reasonable sum, given that I hadn't ordered their product.
I checked my spam folder and found an email from them dated 31st Dec informing me of their intentions. Even if I had seen this email, I wouldn't have had time to contact the bank as they were closed for the New Year.
I have contacted them and they are refunding me in full with surprisingly little resistance, which suggests to me that they are just another crowd of techy chancers who probably rip everybody off as a matter of routine and refund only those prepared to make a complaint, which too many people aren't.
    DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT.

Don't celebrate just yet until refund actually happens!
  • Hi, the company has asked for a right of reply. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the Forum:

    "Dear andyca

    Thank you for your review.

We have only just become aware of this thread and realize that the length of time for reply will perhaps be of no benefit to yourself and your uncle. However, you have raised some comments and concerns about our service and features that we would like to address and supply assurances for.

Like all software providers, we advertise our product to digital users who are most likely to benefit from our security features.

In regards to your allegation about fake reports of threats on your uncle's PC, there are a lot of programs out there that offer false positives. Please be assured we are not one of them.

We carry full certifications from Microsoft and AppEsteem. In order to obtain these certifications, software must be able to detect at least 99.5% of malware listed by the ‘WildList Organisation’, it must also generate no more an 0.01% of false positives. We have held a 100% pass rate since April 2018, meaning we are now noticed for our renowned 100% WildList detection and 0% false positives due to these being awarded.

All customers receive an introductory discount on their initial subscription and are given the option to purchase protection that meets their individual requirements. To ensure our customer's devices continue to stay protected, all services automatically renew at the regular rate and we send an email giving 30 days notice of this occurrence. Your uncle legitimately purchased annual protection from us, at the cost of £30, which will then revert back to the original price if he wished to continue his security package with us after this first term.

Without the information for your uncle, we are unable to check whether your requests were resolved. However, we have a dedicated 24-hour support team available if there is anything else we can help with. "
