Fallen for the ScanGuard {Edited by Forum Team}

The FIRST thing you want to do is contact bank, make sure that they have not set up a recurring payment.
As has been said many a time, Windows 10 is an Advertising and Affiliate platform, first thing I do is shut it all down and rip the guts out of it. 240 privacy setting are part of it. I find it disgusting that Microsoft to not let you uninstall all of the crap and that they put some back after updates.
When Win10 first came out I shut down all the built-in adware and spyware aspects, but as you point out they seem to "accidentally" add them in with various "security updates".
I would gladly pay £50 to not have a spyware and adware riddled machine for elderly and adolescent relatives who need to be protected from constant spurious advertising.
I think the scam model for ScanGuard is to slowly milk it's targets with ever increasing yearly subscriptions, rather than a snatch-and-grab of all funds in one go, they seem to be trying to look like a legitimate company on the surface. Giving them a day or two to respond to a refund request might make a chargeback from the bank more likely, but I've also told him to contact the bank immediately to report the scam and prevent future payments.0 -
That post is 11 years old !!
Malwarebytes and ADW cleaner and a scan with your choice of AV and your good to go
Ha - it is, but most of the tools referenced are well respected, still available and regularly updated. It's possible for some tools to catch things that others miss, so I'm just going for belt and braces.
I will certainly run ADW Cleaner though

Please come back and let us know if those others find anything that MBAM and ADW miss (and your AV)
I will have to rethink my whole belief system

I fell for this scam too and they have been taking £9.59 from my barclaycard credit account for the last two months. I asked Barclaycard to cancel it, but they want proof of the cancellation. So I contacted Scanguard and told them to cancel the transaction completely and refund my money as I have not even used the software....... having tried to cancel it when I realised it was a scam. I just hope they do not ignore my request this time, I cannot afford to lose all this money. I asked for an email confirmation but so far nothing has arrived, so I still have no proof.0

Have you reported this to Action Fraud?
They may be able to help with getting some money back, I report most email scams to them now, even though it's quite a long winded process, but worth it to catch these scammers.
Take care.

Just go back to your bank and tell them that they hang up on you - then insist that charges are reversed0
