I used a company called Luna stone - based in WGC, herts. Very good price and the stone & fitting was high quality. Went for 'Platino' which was light and had so many compliments! In our new house, I'm wanting to go for for 'Bianco Luminoso' as I nearly chose this last time!
* and no problems with staining or marks at all... not like our current black marble which shows up all watermarks!0 -

Very near to me, I'm in Snorbens. Just having doors from a company in WGC at the moment, chap is downstairs banging.0 -
We went for a very pale grey quartz with a mirror fleck and I love it. Got one rust stain on it which came off easily with WD40 and all other stains come off just with a bit of star drops.
If I had to do it again, I would avoid getting an undermount sink with grooves in the worktop. The grooves do seem to stain a bit because we are in a hard water area and I think a nice over mount sink may be easier to keep clean. But that's just my tuppence.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Yes, I'm planning on an inset sink, stainless steel.0

I'm sure red wine will be a suitable alternative although I'd rather waste a teaspoon of turmeric than even a drop of red wine.
Just had email quote back from Landfordstone. Their price is double the DIY kitchen quote for quartz, which also includes fitting.
I also need to decide edging for quartz worktop. I have provisionally chosen pencil, but am not really sure what all the options mean. `do some chip easier?
I've just got back from friend's house, and she gave me some turmeric to test for stains, so will try this and wine over the weekend.0 -
All six samples of quartz now have yellow patches due to the turmeric.
Is there a way to get this off? Of should I abandon the idea of a light coloured worktop and get a mid-grey colour instead?
EDIT: I have used some surgical spirit, and this got if off some of the samples. The samples are from two different companies. On one, the turmeric came off completely, and on the other it faded to almost (but not quite) gone.
Now all I need to do is try red wine this evening. I'll leave it overnight and see what happens.0 -

Are you comparing like with like? There is reputable quartz like Cosentino and Caaesarstone and there is also a vast amount coming in from China of unknown provenance. You have not said what samples you have.0 -
Silestone.
Can't recall the other one, will look at samples when I get home.
Edit: The second brand is called Natural Stone Surfaces.0 -
Mine is Teltos, as stated above.. It resists turmeric. It really is a stern test of how stain resistant a surface is.
Probably a case of pay your money and take your choice.
Quartz is very robust though. I use fairy liquid and Scotchbrite Classic scourers on mine. It doesn't mark it at all.0 -
Having considered all the options, I think I have settled on quartz for the worktop.
It will be a light colour, maybe white and pale grey or similar.
I have read online reviews that say some of these are prone to staining, so I have soaked the samples in tomato ketchup and puree for a couple of days, and so far so good.
Does anyone have pale quartz worktops, and if so what brands are good? Are there any brands that you've had staining problems with?
I know two people who have had pale quartz worktops installed in the past year or so and they both look fantastic, and have not had problems with staining.
The one done earlier is used by quite a messy family, but still looks good as new. The more recent one was done by quartzworktopsdirect.com (based in Welwyn Garden City, Herts) and they were really pleased with the company.0
