Barclays are being totally unreasonable here.
What's suspicious about someone who is not a named account holder using a VPN to mask their location accessing the account and transferring the money?DEBT FREE!
Debt free by Xmas 2014: £3555.67/£4805.67 (73.99%)
Debt free by Xmas 2015: £1250/£1250 (100.00%)0 -
And I'll only add that this part of the discussion is getting off topic so I'm not going to join in any further debate on these issues - it would clearly be utterly pointless!
Good, because all your remarks are generalisations and way off topic whereas I was specifically addressing the situation of the OP's mother. She lives in Spain and is trying to operate a UK bank account - she NEEDS online banking. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

Myself and others have been criticising the OP for using the term 'Barclays Store'.

Yes, when I saw the criticism the other day I took a look at the Barclays website as I'm sure I've been invited to go to my recently refurbished iPad showroom 'store' - but the website did still say 'branch'.
Virgin Money have 'stores' but then as my local one doesn't actually handle cash transactions it may be a more appropriate and less confusing term"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
Please see:

Firstly, never, ever use somebody else's login details, card, or do anything that could be construed as impersonating them. That will only lead to flags being raised and accounts being frozen - or closed.
If you have third party authority or power of attorney over the account, use the banking functions that have been made available to you in the capacity that they've been granted. As third party trustee you (OP) should personally have the ability to use online banking (£50k daily transfer limit) and in-branch CHAPS payments (no upper limit). Barclays have "refused" to give you internet access? I find that hard to believe as that's contradicted in the webpage I posted above.
When you get back from the US visit a branch, explain the situation, and clarify what you can do.: )0 -
Well I'm.sorry this turned into a debate, I was just after advise to make this happen I(see opening post) guess nobody here has been in this situation and so people would rather debate.
Anyway after yet another goof up at the bank (this time they forgot to save my signature for their records) I managed to get it sorted without my mother being present at the bank a couple of days ago.
