Goooooood Morning fellow OS’ers

I have slept (honest!) and I’m up for the duration now, although I might be lucky enough to cat nap a little later and before the pace of the day picks up. Just popping in to reassure those who were worrying that I’m still around, still OS’ing but don’t really have the time to post as much as I used to (that’s a good thing, right?). I do think about you all
Silly fact to begin your day with, found “Old Style” in my dictionary the other day and despite what *we* deem it to mean, it actually means “the former method of reckoning dates using the Julian calendar”. Now, I don’t have a Julian calendar but I did find one online (it’s here if anyone is that interested
http://www.sungro.com/julian.htm ) and today isn’t October 1st (pinch, punch, first of the month and bagsy no returns!
) but Old Style 274/07
Aren’t you glad you know that? :rotfl:
Ok, quickie catch up. Butlins went like a dream and d12yo (as he is now) really didn’t have a clue until he spotted the Skyline on the horizon, he was absolutely overwhelmed and overjoyed!
The weekend sped by far too quickly, but on a MSE front, there was a very good offer on if we booked then for next year. I knew it was too good to pass up and very do-able so I’ve booked another mini break for next year.
The weather was a wash out that weekend, but it really didn’t make much of a difference as there was just so much to do anyway.
It was a tonic to get away and not have to think about anything other than just having Fun! August wasn’t a very good month otherwise, 3 deaths within a short space of time to contend with. At one stage, I had to attend 2 funerals in 8 days. Not top of my “things to do on a summer day” wish list! Now there’s a thing, when did wearing any colour under the sun to funerals begin? Whatever happened to wearing respectful black/dark colours? As those who have experienced these things know, feuds and fallouts often go hand in hand with grieving and I’ve been caught in the middle of one in particular. Hopefully, in time they will mend their differences, but it doesn’t look likely at the moment. Such a shame.
Two weeks ago, d12yo finally received his Music award at the school’s presentation evening. I felt so, so proud of him. He got a book token for WHSmiths and has been trying (unsuccessfully!) to ‘sell’ it to me for cash value ever since. :rotfl:
I’m really trying to get to grips with the OAMC (once a month cooking) technique. It’s working out quite well! This weekend I have fed the freezer with 42 bags of different bases to conjure up into tantalising feasts (??) at a moments notice, have several bags of stock for making up into soups, plus made up 6 loaves of sandwiches for packed lunches/busy weekends. Today I was going to do muffins, scones and biscuits, but the day didn’t quite go to plan. Not a problem, I have a big bag of all purpose mix in the freezer and as tomorrow is jacket potato night (batch made and frozen last week) the oven will be on and it won’t take long to whip up some muffins and scones from the mix and utilise the hot oven. Overall, it will save a small fortune in time and money and as both are extremely precious at the moment, that’s a good thing
I haven’t had time to read and catch up on everyone’s happenings, but ((hugs)) for those who need them. Don’t know when I’ll get the time to pop in again, but for those who do and have been, don’t worry!
Have a good day 274

Morning to all that follow.
Just a quickie to say it's my first weigh day today since starting to loose weight for the final time! I have lost 18lb. I think that averages out at 4 1/2 lb a week so that's a good start I guess. Could moan that I wanted it to be more , but I know I'll get told off so I wont!!!:rotfl:

Morning. I skipped the weekend as I was working and could not be bothered to log on. Work today.. In court all day... easy day although standing in the box is always a bit nervy.
Well done Frogga on the weight loss. That's an exceptional start. :T
OH starts UNI today, so I will have to get her out of bed in a minute ready for the 45 mile drive she has. Fuel has gone up today as well, so that will be a great help!! Not. Stupid chancellor. I think if he calls an election on the day the fuel prices rise.... watch him lose!
Hope you all have a nice dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Hello everybody,
There is a bloke on his tractor with a slasher across from me mowing the spare blocks. It is just one red dust haze outside. So glad I didn't clean the house today. I would be really annoyed. Lettuce soup was a success. I'll give DH a bowl tonight and if he likes it I"ll start the production line up. Unfortunatley it only uses 1 lettuce.
I couldn't make the relish today as I didn't have enough. The recipe uses 3 lb but should have in a couple of days. I've got 2 1/2 lb now. If not I'll just make it anyway.
Another warm day here. Caught up with the laundry and going to plant some seedlings in a mo and water the garden once the sun's off it.
Frogga Congratulations. That's a very good start.
N9eav Hope DW survives her first day at Uni. Bit scarey.
Queenie Nice to hear from you, and we'll see you when we see you.
Does anybody know if Pink actually got up yesterday?

Hope you all have a lovely day. Hugs to those that need them. Byeeeeeee
P.S. Don't forget to post the zoo pictures PP.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

A very quick bonjour from France,
Lovely to hear from you Queenie - sorry you have such a cr*p summer.
Hotel has free wi-fi:j :j :j
Considered staying overnight in Dover and crossing today, but the cheapest hotel was £48 without breakfast and 12 miles fromthe ferry port:eek: . Would have meant getting up at 5.30 am.
Over here 35€ without and 44€ with 2 breakfasts, and free wi-fi - definitely
MS.
Considering using this all the way down so if arrive earlier one night might get on for longer and even read this thread.
Take care

Morning
Well, it's getting darker in the mornings, think we have skipped summer and gone straight to autumn (or winter a couple of days last week)
Went into Asda on Friday and bought two long dresses for my holiday for £1.50 and £2 each, but they don't fit, so I'll have to take back today.
Lots of ironing to do later, and then I will have finished packing so roll on Saturday :j
Will get a frozen homemade shepherds pie out of the freezer for dinner, and probably soup for lunch.
Bonjour donny, you sneaked in while I was typing
Hope everyone has a good day xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever

:hello: Good morning everyone!
Queenie - great to see you again (you have been missed :kisses: ) and a Happy 247/07
Frogga - well done
Catowen - hope the headache's gone
N9eav - the only people who want a General Election are journalists who will then have ready-made stories for 3/4 weeks (and some of my best friends are BBC journalists
)
:hello: for the Scuba Chalky Leopards and anyone else who just likes to be mentioned :hello:
Haribo - lay off picking on Penguins

Had a great weekend. Friends came for supper on Saturday (did HG tomato and basil bruscetta, a whole roast curried chicken, with lots of side dishes, then an open top apple and raisin pie with real custard    ). 2 of them stayed over and we went out for a long walk followed by lunch in a country pub  (DS was at Scout camp, and DD at the pictures with friends). We've arranged a bonfire night party at ours (the actual bonfire and fireworks in the next town - brilliant display) with different people bringing different things. One friend will be making parkin this week so that it has time to mature
Lots of tidying up to do today, and a pile of washing and ironing. Think I might bake, too
 :j
Have a great day, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
