You say to prepare for masters it's may now so that's about 4 months you could be doing part time work. What does preparing for a masters entail to not work for 4 monthsMortgage free wannabe
Actual mortgage stating amount £75,150
Overpayment paused to pay off cc
Starting balance £66,565.45

Whilst you are full-time studying (so once your course starts) you don't count for council tax purposes and so, as you'd only have one adult in the home that counts, you'd receive the 25% off council tax for sole occupier0

I take it this doesn't apply for part time post grad courses?0 -

Yep that's where I was stuck, proving I was unemployed without "signing on".
You are not really unemployed though, are you, as you are not seeking work. I would describe your position as 'economically inactive'. AFAIK there is nothing you can claim as you are in this situation by your own choice.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Part-time post grad you won't count as a student for council tax0 -
Hi all, thanks again to those who have given constructive advice.
I am in the fortunate position that I am able to not work between now and starting my MA. Honestly, to those who have asked how & why the reasons are non of your business. Perhaps I have been left some money because someone close to me has recently passed away which I am still uncomfortable talking about? Thankfully this isn't the case but I think some of you should think carefully before interrogating someone who has come to a board on a site specialising in moneysaving asking a specific question about moneysaving.
I am not asking about how to get the money together to do a masters so I do not need to be told to work as long as possible to save up. Being a sensible moneysaver I have already done that. I gave you background to help put my request into context. Unfortunately a few of those who have replied have focused on the context not the request for help. This is not encouraging to newbies to the forum who are asking a genuine question. Mine is a uncommon situation, but if it wasn't unusual I could have found the information myself (which I tried to do) and would not have had to ask on this forum.
Again, many thanks to those who tried to help, you have really helped to clarify the situation for me, despite the answer being that there's no further moneysaving to be had! :beer:0 -
Surely someone of your educational standing would understand that if you are capable of supporting yourself then you won't be eligible for benefits, which are for those whose income is not sufficient.0

Which is why I made the point in the introduction of saying I knew that I was not eligible for benefits (and have reiterated at least once since). I was trying to make it clear I was not asking about benefits as such.
My inquiry was with regards to any discounts or exemptions I may not be aware of but which I may be eligible for given that I am currently unwaged (a useful term I hadn't thought to use before this discussion!)0
